New "Project" S600

Decided that I hadn't been abused enough by my last 600 vehicle so I picked up a worse example 600! Found a 2007 S600 that had been sitting for a while and jumped on it. Apparently it was signed over to a shop owner who had a customer who couldn't pay a debt. Picked it up for $7k. It is a Designo Graphite Edition with around 109k miles. When I got it it had some horrible 22" chrome wheels on rubber band tires that were bent to hell, was doing some strange electrical things, had a horrible whine from the ABC system, and a massive boost leak. So far I've address the wheels, replaced the three accumulators, replaced both batteries, and did engine and transmission mounts. Also fixed the insanely obvious boost leak.

The car drives wonderfully now. There is still a lot of work to be done but so far I feel like I stole the car.

I would strongly agree with that statement. Crazy how potent the V12 powerplant is. Makes me M278 V8 feel almost lethargic.

Good for you OP!

They are great fun. The 5.5 liter Bent-12 goes just fine. Brakes are too small though.

Enjoy!

I agree John, wayyyyy too small to stop this behemoth. Something about dealing with the cards you're dealt?

Small update. One of the many issues I was having was the passenger rear seat adjustments failed. Ordered up the seat adjustment module for $30 shipped from ebay. Problem solved! Have a fully functional rear occupant area now. The massage, lumbar, and bolsters still work.

Next on the list is a non functional sunroof shade and window. Everything surrounding the switch that opens the sunshade/roof tells me that the motor failed. I'll be dropping the headliner soon to address this. Also have a slightly bent inner driver-side tie ride. My guess is the car was towed at some point without using the tow hook. Have to drive the W222 for the time being so I don't ruin my tires. Rough life...

Sunroof motor and sun shade motor are known issues. Parts are not expensive although I used OEM rather than Chinese. Both motors failed on my 2007 S600 at around 75K miles and 13 years. The key to long motor life is lubrication of the sliding glass after you repair the motors. There is a crazy expensive lubricant from Mercedes that is required and only sold in huge tubs. I found a guy online who sold me 1 ounce for $10. According to MB, you cannot use any other lubricant.

Keep us posted.

I tried Hawk Ceramic Yellow pads on new Brembo drilled rotors on the front and that stops pretty well with no dust on the wheels.

That'll be next on the list after I do the tie rod this weekend. I'm not too worried about the sunroof motor. Dropped plenty of headliners. Was it a pretty simple job once you got in there?

Yes. Biggest challenge is keeping hands and fingers grease-free. The headliner alcantara picks up all the dirt and is hard to clean after getting grime on it. Take your time and wash hands frequently.
