2009 S600 W221 Satellite Radio possibly inoperative
I verified my satellite antenna was still good by using the Satellite Nav in the car to get home.
Called Sirius XM, and they verified my radio ID, my account was up to date, and they sent me a satellite radio reset signal.
Still stuck on channel 0, but I now receive their commercial in the background to join.
The tech on the phone said they have been getting a lot of down signal calls from a lot of Mercedes S class owners.
He said we all must have got a recent software update and the radios aren’t compatible any longer.
I reminded him it’s a 15 years old car and doesn’t just update itself over the internet. I proposed root cause was Sirius changed satellites and they are not backwards compatible any longer. They are trying to spin a web of deception.
He said it is under investigation and they know root cause next week.
Has any other S Class folks lost their satellite radio signal in the last few days?

if so you could do the sensible thing and fit the far cheaper Hyundai amp then get it coded to Merc software - NO one bothered with the last step, they like the idea of prodding insensately the mute knob after every vol adjustment to encourage the non std amp to think about life
If FM radio has sound and station display - its quite possible the Sirius module self destructed (they do it) - you can try a second-hand one (with returns policy) and fit that but you'll need someone like BenzNinja to sort your Sirius licence inside the new unit - its sits in the boot near the left rear tail light

The satellite radio display is there, but has no channels.
I can believe the satellite radio module could be end of life, if the tech hadn’t mentioned they have been getting a flood of calls from S Class owners and others for permanent loss of radio stations and signal.
He said they are investigating it further and will call me Monday (yah right)
I hope the root cause is they updated software or switched to a new satellite which was not backward compatible any longer.
I’ll be ready to replace the Sirius module if they don’t have a resolution.

I do wonder if support meant lots ring now and then moaning it doesn't work any more.... rather than we have just had a flood of them in the last few days

AM/FM, CD still work fine.
At first I thought the Russians took out a satellite. Looks like this is more widespread.
Have not contacted Sirius yet, but will see if others are having this issue.
FYI - location is AZ.

Well find out next week root cause.

This is not to say they haven’t changed something on their end that makes for no channels.

I haven't called SiriusXM yet but the reset signal does not have any effect, Pretty disappointing if this turns out that our cars are no longer compatible...
I'm troubleshooting and will reply again if I learn anything.

Sirius actually called me this morning from 1-866-308-7234.
The tech thought it was only 2008, 2009 S class.
I informed them as learned from this forum, the classes are varied by the class and year. The design and software of the satellite module might be of the same family though.
The tech said the software engineering team are working on it and are trying understand the root cause.
Btw, at first I had channel 0 and no sound. After got on the top floor of the parking garage, they sent a reset, and still had channel 0, but had their endless commercials to sign up. Both cases, any manual input of channel numbers, it displayed “invalid channel”.
If you lost your signal and have channel 0 displayed, before you take a fire axe to the inside of your trunk, call the 1-866-308-7234 to add some more facts to their database.

Exactly what I have going on today. Calling Sirius to add to the fire.

FYI - My call to Sirius said they are working on it, and I would be compensated for the downtime.
If I save Station 0 as a favorite, I now show 2 channels, both of which play nothing.

One question, did they send a satellite radio boot signal, or did it start working again on its own?

I can image this "episode" was secretly killing off old tuners that no longer pay for the service - is there some old contract these car's were on that means for whatever pitiful service left operating it was free for life ? and or as it passes to new hands they can't bill the correct owner ?

Pre 2008 cars - there was an update (dealer programming - meant to be free - I bet they no longer support) when Sirius and XM merged they made a load of channel packages available upon subscriptions
To make this change, there was a SIRIUS channel lineup change in September 2008 that made the way to launch the “Best of XM ” package in October 2008 when it began offering “SIRIUS Everything + XM” and “SIRIUS Family + XM”. These packages, containing a selection of XM programming, are available at an additional subscription cost to SIRIUS customers.
following labor operations should be used to obtain reimbursement for this software update
to be provided only to customers confirming their intention to subscribe to one of the “Best of XM Packages”.
This information has been generated on May 12, 2009. Please refer to Netstar Æ Star TekInfo Æ Star Time

I guess it means week 43 2005 vs week 29 2008 - to get here follow info below the Pic
ENG Menus
get in the car and turn on the key (it can ALL be done with it running - they flatten batteries in seconds on these cars otherwise)...
move the comand cursor (which Icon is highlighted) on the top menu bar that reads Navi, Audio, Telephone, Video, Vehicle,
use the control wheel to select Vehicle. Then pull the control wheel to the bottom menu and highlight System Settings
now these four all have to be done together
o Press and hold the “*” button, which is referred to as the “Favorite” button and typically actuates the rear sunshade.
o While holding “*”, press the Control Dial to the Right without pressing it down or turning it.
o While the “*” is pressed and the Control Dial is held to the right, press the Seat Massage button to the right of the Hazard switch and hold it.
o While holding the “*” button, the Control Dial to the Right, and the Seat Massage button, press the Mute button, which is the button located below the VOL dial and has an icon of a speaker with a slash.
When this combination is performed successfully, you will have reached the Engineering Menu.
change NOTHING other than instigating update if you have fitted the right clock fix CD in the drive - but you can safely scroll round to look at everything
the back arrow key (one of the buttons around the comand knob switch panel), or key on off, will take you out of the ENG menus
