Car Wash Hassles

So I took my car through the $20 car wash this morning. Snapped my Chrome Grill right off along with the left front door trim chrome strip. And my 2007 S600 has adaptive cruise control so I need the Chrome Grill with the funny black radar coverlet. Anyone know the correct Mercedes part number for the Chrome Grill?

I already have the left front door trim from my last hassle with a car wash. I just need the Chrome Grill part number.

Many thanks.

that sounds expensive.... I have noticed closing the bonnet on mine every now and then I get these little chrome bits fall off.... eventually realised its the chrome cover that is slowly starting to have movement.... I guess part of it is nearly 20 year old plastic sat in the sun . under bonnet heat

https://nemigaparts.com/cat_spares/e...76/63v/88/135/

MB A2218800683 ???? its going to be more money than you can believe

the black plastic bit is $380 for one version

MB A2218880011 or this cheap one at $169

Thanks, BOTUS. Mine was also cracked either from sun exposure or that glancing front end fender-bender with a Prius several years ago. It was also flaking chrome (fake plastic chrome?) but today's car wash adventure won't be covered by insurance the way the Prius incident was. This will be my expense. I found a Chinese pattern part for $62 on Ebay that I might splice onto the broken part, at least for the time it will take to locate an OEM part. I expect I am looking at every bit of $1500 by the time I get this cosmetically resolved.

And if I did make an insurance claim, they would probably total the car since it is 19 years old. I think the local Carvana last offer (unsolicited!) was $6500.

$20 car wash......

or 8k sold in bits on ebay - winds me up crooks with space can make money selling as parts - and yet decent cars go for nothing....

prices converted to US$, just been told my bike that was 30k new - 5 years in, still almost as good as new condition and only 10 k miles & they'll give me 9k for it... of course its German so basically ready for the scrapper....
if you thought V12 coil packs were fragile BMW have taken that idea on by some margin and if they make 20k miles its an odd one

even Honda bike's are a joke now, - and a 21year old Toyota's goes for the same prices as a 3 year old one

Sort of been there done that...lost door trim at the car wash and various other places.

Grill is cracked, but years ago looked at the price and it was an "Oof" moment.

Sorry can't help, just sympathizing.

So I found a Chinese chrome strip for the door for about $44 and installed it with no issues. Put a tiny drop of super glue at each tip trying to keep the next carwash from being a problem. Success on that one.

Not so much on the chrome grille. The Chinese parts at $92, $129, and $215 all did not fit mostly because of the round radar sensor in the nose of my S600. Only the $215 item had a square space for the sensor, but the proverbial round sensor won't fit inside the square hole. So I went to OEM parts and the prices ran from $754 to $1015 which is indeed a religious experience for plastic parts. And I wonder how much labor to swap the OEM part. It looked very fiddly with about 20 little nuts and bolts.

This may end up an insurance claim yet!

I bought both of them. Let's see if they fit.

So one didn't fit and the other one wouldn't allow a return on a $572 item so I cancelled it; and I gave up and took the car to my Indy who found the correct OEM part at the local dealer for $690. I told him to go for it. Then I called Hagerty Insurance and put in a claim. A very nice young lady called to get details but she said it would be covered and at a $0 deductible (I nearly fell over!). She also said they would have their subrogation department confront the car wash owner. This may have a better happy ending yet. I will keep everyone posted.

I bought a power washer on Ebay and I plan to do most of my car washes at home from now on.

so you admit that the grill was cracked and possibly breaking from a prior accident and that you’ve had issues with parts falling off in the car wash before and you went back through the car wash and had another broken part fall off and now you want insurance and the rest of the world to pay for your mistakes.

were you honest with your insurance company or you just wanna go after a car wash that likely had a sign that said “if your parts are falling off your car and cracking and you’ve been in an accident, please don’t come in this facility and cause us problems”

as an FYI, the power washer you got might be stronger than the Jets at the car wash so you might want to research who you’re gonna sue when the pressure washer blows off your previously broken parts.

if your car is under cared for and crappy and the parts are cracked and falling off, maybe you should just hand wash it and not try to go after small businesses for your lack of maintenance.

Actually, the whole car wash incident IS my fault. I was prepared to pay for it because my car is in very good shape and I wanted it put back into the same condition as prior to the car wash incident. I am fortunate enough to be able to pay for it. I was also smart enough to buy a Hagerty Insurance policy and they did not have any problem with my claim. And I am not asking you or the World to pay for anything.
