She's running great right now. PM I've done was spark plugs at 105K, trans service and pulleys/belts at 120k, cabin/air filters at 129K. Front driveshaft at 122K after it failed. So far the S550 has been very reliable, necesary repairs were front wheel bearings around 124K and some front end components along the way. 3 and a half years of driving and 30k miles.

The air flaps on the intake manifold can fail, check them too.
Re-check the tolerance of the replaced wheel bearing after 1000 miles (ask me how i know...)
Clear the water drains from the sunroof all the way down to the wheel wells

Jaap where exactly are those airflaps you're talking about

tumble flaps - tractors get swirl flaps - the secret add-on from 19 years ago to destroy all engines as the mileage creeps up

the idea is to increase turbulence on the airflow to better mix the fuel as it goes in the combustion chamber - its only effective at tick over up to 1500 rpm - if you remove or jam in the open position you almost can't tell you did it - but they do love to break off and the engine ingests them - if unlucky the valves and pistons will not like life but the best bit they always destroy any turbo they get to find later on

when BMW first fitted tumble flaps they were made of Brass and definitely destroy the engine from 65k miles (as if designed to fail directly after the warranty ended) it was such a time clock they later went to plastic like merc use and it only destroys half the engines and every turbo they meet

its not just the linkage on the outside - its the tumble flaps inside the manifold that snap off and the engine eats them - you have to buy and entire manifold - check aliexpress $400

Engine mounts and trans mount are high on the list for replacement if never done before. Check the drive shaft guibos for wear too.

You should check the oil separator at the rear of the right valve cover for oil passage. Pop the hose off and see if there is excess oil is inside.
If the separator lets oil past, it will gum up the tumble valves mentioned above, and seize/break/fail them.

@Jaap
I'm facing an ABS issue
I think it's the magnetic disk

I'm thinking of replacing the affected wheel's bearing (front right)

Why do you say to re-check the tolerance?

I'll be using a dealer-original bearing

Something happened to you?

Re-checking tolerance ensures the bearing seat settled properly sometimes things shift after initial install. I’ve seen ABS issues pop up later due to minor movement or debris. OEM bearings help, but still worth verifying. Had a similar problem on mine; re-torquing fixed it.

Question

Hi all, new member but long-ish time lurker.
I thought I'd add my question in here since it's so similar to the OP rather than start a new thread.

I've engaged the "help" of ChatGPT in putting together this maintenance schedule for my 2007 S550 4Matic. I'm not extremely mechanically-inclined and this is my first Mercedes.
