Question Center console Lid

I have a 2012 s550 base model and my center console lid button is broken off, the whole assembly is still intact I’m just missing the black button. I have been trying to figure out how to replace the lid but I’ve been asking and looking around forums and groups on Facebook to see how they remove it but no one has given me an answer. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I purchased the full assembly button on eBay and Aliexpress but they don’t show how to remove just the button. I’ve seen posts on Facebook where people remove the entire center console lid but I don’t know how to do that.

That's incredibly long winded for not actually achieving anything.

From the front right seat, open the lid away from you.

The double hinge is actually a frame. It's either a small hex or Torx, but you should see a flat circular face with a small hole in it where the lid latches. Carefully unscrew these and the frame, with the lid, should lift out. From memory there's a spring that the screw runs through which helps 'pop' the lid when you press the button.

You can then either attack it on a table to dismantle it or simply swap in another one.

I’m so sorry I’m really confused I still don’t see any screws or holes

Zackly👍
Just be careful when you remove the screws because there are springs that sit between the arms and where they attach.

The button frame pops out carefully. Pry from the top using a credit card or similar. Anything else will damage the leather.

Although it looks shiny and metal it is, in fact, plastic.

Also, trying to remove the leather covering or dismantling the lid will result in permanent damage at best.

Vid showing how to reassemble the button and refit it. Just make sure the spring is in position before fitting the button assembly.

Just poke a corner in on the top edge and twist, it should pop out.

That said, if you have a new button, that should slide straight in without removing the silver piece😉

Looks it👍

Personally, I would lift the silver tab and slide out the black button and just slide this into your existing chromed piece 😉

Thank you so much!! I was able to remove the button from the silver trim so hopefully I can just pop in the button with ease!
