2014 Sport Package or Non Sport?

I am getting ready to order a new s550. I currently have an '08 with Sport Package and and trying to decide if I order Sport or non Sport ....

with the previous nobody style, I think it makes a huge difference but with the new one it seems to have muck less of a visual impact as long as it is configured with the 19 or 20" wheel option.

Pic 1 - 19" Sport Package
Pic 2 - 19" Option, Non Sport
Pic 3 - 20" Option, Non Sport

Thoughts on this please. Thanks

I am also about to place an order for a S550. I am definitely going with the AMG package as I personally like the rear diffuser in the rear. I also am not crazy about the chrome lines at the rear 3/4 if the car did not have the AMG package.

However, that being said, the AMG package isn't a HUGE HUGE difference for this model year as the front ALMOST looks the same.

I mean, if you don't really care, then don't get the AMG package and save yoruself $6000 for other options then

I'm personally not a fan of that rear side chrome either...looks weird. So if you pic the non-AMG, I'm definitely a fan of pic 2 wheels. Love those wheels for the regular cars.

Curious what decision you finally made. I am about to order an S550 without the sports package for 2 reasons: 1. It is hardly a sporty car by any stretch; 2. where I live you only see S-class of any year with the sports package so it is too common. In fact, it is the only option I am not getting (yes, even the refrigerator).

For me it's always sport over non-sport everytime!

I choose the sport body because of the more aggressive look.......kind of plain IMO without it........

I went with Non Sport, 19", rear spoiler.

This was about a year ago and I'm still happy with the decision. My friend has the same car, with sport package and I like it but for me the AMG styling hasn't changed / evolved that much and the differences between sport / Non sport wasn't that major to me.

I would definitely do the 19"s and the spoiler.

Like someone said above, I have also always gone Sport on all the other BMWs and Mercedes I have owned.

If they bring 20" 5 spokes and a body kit that has noticeable differences from the normal car than I chose sport. For now, non sport.

I was undecided when I purchased my S550. All my previous benzes have been sport package and I never really considered not having that option. However, when I combined the 20" wheel page with some other options I preferred I convinced myself to go non sport. I had the opportunity to compare the cars side by side and there is really not much of a difference. In my opinion, not as much as there is on the 221. In any event, I thought the non sport had a more elegant look to it. I guess it is a personal preference but that is the way the car struck me during the side by side comparison. I am not sorry I didn't take the sport option. In the past the non sport S's always looked under tired with wheels and tires that didn't fill up the wheel wells. The 20" wheel package certainly solves that issue. So for me it was sportiness or elegance. I chose the latter.

I was going to get the Sport as well but when I saw how it looked, I passed. I don't think the AMG Wheels offered as part of the Sport Package are the best for the S Class, they don't fill the wheel wells, and they don't seem as robust as the car demands. If they had the AMG Wheels that come with the SL, that would be perfect.

I think the car looks best with a 20" wheel and the non sport chrome trim. But that is my opinon only.

I don't like a big, elegant sedan looking aggressive, but that's just me. I prefer a more sedate, refined look, so I would never consider the Sports Pkg. However, even more important to me in my sedan, is ride comfort and that's why I chose the 18" wheels. Frankly, I love the look of some of the larger wheels, but I would never sacrifice ride comfort for appearance purposes and regardless of what some here say, there is a huge difference in ride quality when you go from 18" wheels to something larger, especially over roads that are less than ribbon smooth. Do the comparison with conventional tires vs run flats and the difference becomes even more dramatic.

I couldn't agree more. I would go sports package if buying the AMG models, if only for lack of choice. As for the tires, please tell me whether your gorgeous car with 18" rims came with all-season or summer tires. Thanks.

AMG Line every time for me. I was looking for a sporty yet luxury car with enough power for daily use but not enough to kill myself. I bought it with 19" to save a few thousand and spent that money on Vossen CVT Alloys.

You know, I never looked to see what tires were on there originally, other than they were run flat tires. I had asked to have the RFT replaced with conventional tires when I placed the order, so that was part of the deal. I put about 400 miles on the RFT and then brought it in and the dealer swapped them. Having done so, I was able to compare the RFT to the conventional tires and the difference was quite noticeable as far as ride went, but the huge difference was in noise. The RFT were quite noisy at highway speeds, while these conventional tires are nearly silent.

Man, I love that palladium silver. I was a little hesitant when I bought mine but it really does the car justice. I have 20" w/run flats and am not put off by ride quality or noise. I can attest to the fact that regular tires make a substantial difference in ride quality and noise. Had negative experience with three BMW's running run flats and changed to regular tires. It was like night and day. I guess I'm just accustomed to a harder ride and a little more noise based on my Porsche and BMW experience. I really don't have any complaints about the W222. By the way...the palladium silver photo looks great! Nice, clean and shiny. We are coming off a month of nasty snow and rain here in the Northeast and my car needs a good detailing to look anything near the photos in this thread. I'm now inspired to clean things up.

While you folks have been having a hard winter, we on the west coast have been WAY too warm for this time of year. The forecast calls for 80's to 90's this week. This is just nuts! BUT, the car has stayed quite clean this winter.

I have the same, and glad I saved $6k for other options! Looks sporty enough for me on the 19s!

I'll take the warm weather any time. Still have two feet of snow in my yard and the roads are covered with sand and salt. Now the melting starts and you can't tell the difference in car colors. They are all coated with white and gray residue from the road treatment. Oh well, its warming up and we should be good for spring in about a month! I'll take the left coast any time.
