That's funny. But we all know we can really comment until we see it in person. I'm pretty sure it will be gorgeous.
There is a post on autospies talking about how it looks like an accord coupe from the profile. This happens every time a new model comes out

I actually like the new clean rear but don't like where the badge is placed in the middle. Its an easy fix.

Rear looks horrid and the front overhang is MASSIVE.
To me, it looks like a new chapter in M-B's struggling identity crisis. As if now they're combining a bunch of different cars to copy and sprinkling whatever remaining bits of design continuity and historic cohesion that they can. It appears that M-B's designers feel that as long as the giant Star is front and center on the grille, the car can look like anything (literally, any other car out there or as unrelated to M-B's own identity or to other M-B's currently on sale, even for that matter) and they can get away with it.
The side architecture, for one, is all Jaguar, which is new territory for M-B to try and "find themselves" on....

I just had a discussion with a friend and he didn't seem to know that the current CL was already the S class coupe, just never officially called that. I told him, the CL will be "replaced" with the "S class coupe".
Also, same base price as the old CL it replaces. The CL was always a door door version of the S class. No one ever understands why it was called a "CL" and not "s class coupe", and Im glad they finally changed the name properly. It seems very few people knows this, except true enthusiasts.

Damn, two of the things I was hoping for most didn't make it to the production... The door handles and the mirrors... I can see the mirrors, but why not the door handles. Tesla has similar door handles, so they can't argue feasibility...

Please don't tell me there are really Swarovski crystals in the headlights. Between that, "diamond stitching", "diamond grille", "light up Star", fake closed up scoops on Luxury Cars, it's like tacky central up in there. M-B seem to be trying to be the Kardashian of cars, lacking sophistication and elegance. And/or they're desperately pandering to their showy/braggart Hip-Hop crowd following to further solidify the market.

This is Mercedes-BENZ, not Mercedes-Kardashian. It's like they're trying to lower the class level of their buyers. "Diamond pattern this, cheesy light-up Star that, fake scoops this, Swarovski Crystals that.....". I can't believe they put crystals in their lights. I don't think tasteful and sophisticated buyers will respond to that stuff as much as the braggart Hip Hop and Paris Hilton clientele that M-B seem to be depending on to keep promoting their products through Pop Culture (hence why I think they're doing this stuff).

It's all marketing, M-B is carefully placing this stuff for a reason. I have a hard time thinking it's because it looks tasteful. They want to go the gaudy route to solidify themselves as the flashiest of the bunch. IMO the younger, more progressive generation doesn't respond to that as much as the old guard of "bling = wealth". That's why BMW's and now Audi's (and always Porsche, of course) have become so popular. Understated yet cunning.
It's a taste thing, and I think Mercedes are going in the wrong direction there, but there will certainly be a crowd for it. People who want flash and shout-y will respond as Mercedes is really pandering to that personality trait, while understated sophistication is about out the window. When I look at new M-B's, I think that the designers are studying the Kardashians too much or something, personally. Or Ed Hardy, to me some newer M-B designs look like vehicular alternatives to Ed Hardy clothing.
I guess on a good note, if I ever did want a CL, which is an expensive proposition, I could get my girlfriend behind me by showing her the Swarovski's in the headlights.

I feel really sorry for the people that fall for this Swaroski none-sense, I have a close family member that has dealt with Swaraski on a large purchase level and tells me that your paying for gold but getting tin ( to put it nicely)

I usually don't purchase one until a few years have passed. Most people usually dislike the CL or S coupe on arrival. I usually don't get excited about the new body style until a new one pulls up beside me in my old one.
Most people hate on what they can't afford, don't have or better yet doesn’t understand.
I usually laugh and politely ask them to stay in their lane.
