Infrared Passthrough in 2014 S class

We took delivery of our new S63 on Monday.

White, c/f interior, 20" wheels, red calipers - loving it so far.

I have tried unsuccessfully to find out where are the infrared passthroughs for my radar detector.

I would appreciate your help.

Point your car into the sun, and turn slightly left or right. You should see a rectangular pattern (that resembles a horizontal machined pattern) in two places; just to the side of the rearview mirror assembly at the top of the window (for electronic toll transponders), and near the bottom of the window, just above the dashboard, on the drivers side (for a radar detector). You can only see the pattern from inside the vehicle. The location is also shown in the electronic Owner's Manual (the one in the vehicle is very abbreviated).

Thank You

Thank you and yes, I should have looked in digital manual.

What a fantastic automobile, MB really outdid themselves!

I couldn't see it, but the wife could. The one by the mirror is on the passenger side, but the manual shows it on the drivers side. At least that's where she said it was....I mounted it there and my electronic toll device (NY EzPass) worked.

Alas, it is said that the car's drivers assist radar will work havoc with any of the radar detectors.

I queried Valentine and Escort and they all said the same thing; don't try.

I even aked a company that does pricy costom installs and got this reply

Barring a rewrite of some of the laws of physics and without disabling K band, there’s no way to eliminate interference from your car’s D+ ACC system 100 percent of the time.

But there’s a way to sharply curtail it through a multi-step process:

1. Manipulation of the BEL’s setup menu and user preferences, which we do upon request and prior to shipping it
2. Selective deactivation of some factory-default settings
3. Installing the radar antenna in the location that minimizes its susceptibility to the ACC’s emissions
4. Educating the customer on how best to use the system and what to reasonably expect from it

There’s a dearth of qualified installers on LI. We direct our customers to a trusted installation shop in the City we’ve dealt with for years.

STiR Plus without jammers is $1,299.95

Can't you just disable the radar in use by the car? for example my wife's Camry has a button to turn off the blind sports mirrors that use "k band"

I'm not sure...for me the distronic plus, blind spot detection, lane keeping, is part of the driving experience.

Well, TBH when I'm going between AZ and CA I don't think I would want this kind of stuff on with speeds of 100-110

If it is OK in Germany at 160, why would it be a problem in CA at 100? In that case must be nightmare at city speeds.

Yeah, you don't want lane keeping assist on at all when you are going that fast. I was driving through the grapevine at 140mph+ and there was a dip on the left side and it activated .. pretty scary.

Off topic but lane keeping assist does not do any lane-correcting actions at 140 mph, it may give a warning through the steering wheel but does not attempt to steer the car.

It doesn't steer the car, it just applies the brakes to one side in order to attempt to correct it
