I just drove my my15 s550 for about 2 weeks via the European Delivery program. The vehicle is being shipped back to US. The main differences in my2015 are that the air balance package and the touch pad now included as standard. I also ordered the head up display option which is new in 2015. I believe you can also get the headed front windshield as an option for 2015 s550.

By the way, I love the HUD and highly recommend anyone who is considering this option.

There are also a few more exterior, interior and trim color choices.

Also, there is now the 735 trim package which gives you more wood around the interior of the car.

I would hold off till 2016 till the new 9 speed makes its way into the S-class stateside.

What is the benefit over the current transmission that a 9 speed will bring?

Hopefully not those initial issues that the 7G-Tronic had. Smoother shifting might be difficult. The point is that both transmissions have the same number of planetary gears and gaining more gears is achieved by "more challenging" gear switching, just like 7G-Tronic had over the 5 speed tranny. The smaller gear ratio steps do not necessarily bring smoother shifts.

Better fuel economy must be the main advantage, perhaps very small improvement on acceleration.
