Lane Departure Warning Question
When you drive over a lane, does your car issue you three almost air jetting sounds "Pew Pew Pew" which you slightly feel in the steering wheel - or does your steering wheel vibrate strongly like a "BZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ!"

If just changing lanes and the next lane is free, I just get warning, the steering wheel vibrating. If the lane is occupied, the car gives a loud warning (cannot remember how it sounds exactly).
No vibration if I use the blinker.

That vibration - is it like your cell phone vibrating or are there three bursts? One right after the other, three in a row.
My steering wheel does not vibrate at all. It just sort of jolts lightly 3 times with what sounds like an oxygen canister being fired 3 times softly.

I should try it with the car to be sure but it must be like DFW Neal says, only the steering wheel vibrator giving a warning (steering also being "heavy" towards that direction).
Some bed time reading attached if someone is interested about the details.
Could it be an issue with the vibrator motor? Perhaps it makes some noise when it should not.

I often sit in the passenger seat to my dad, and the vibrations are quite audible. They are in a burst but as well as that, the mirror has a red arrow on the side.

But does the red indicator at the mirror appear if the the adjacent lane is empty? I thought not, just the vibrator? The warning tone is loud if the lane is occupied but that is a difference scenario from this topic.

The red indicator only appears for me when the lane has a vehicle coming up, to warn that its there.

Ok so it seems that 3 bursts are common - and normal.
The demo video released from Mercedes introducing their new technology shows a BZZZZZZZ vibration. My friend has an Audi S8 and it vibrates like a powerful cell phone.
Skip to 2:50 and you will see the Vibration. Not the 3 jolts of whatever.

If you drift too far after the small vibrations, do you get a red lane indication next to the car in the display? My car applies the brakes on one side and brings the car forcefully into lane.

But I'm specifically referring to when the car drifts over lane markings that are not solid.
In the scenario I am talking about - there's not a soul on the road. Say I am in the middle lane. I look at the radio to change the channel. I don't follow the curve. I do not have distronic on or anything like that - just a casual drive. As the car drifts over the staggered lines - in the video above - the steering wheel is meant to vibrate with rigor and strength.
In my car, the steering wheel does not vibrate. It just has 3 semi weak "pew pew pew" which is different from the video where the wheel physically BZZZZZZZZ Vibrates like a good cell phone.
I wondered if it was a malfunction or something.

When something is in the next lane or if I am crossing a solid line, yes.

Will try to pay attention the next time I drive the car on the highway with no cars around, now my curiosity is raised...

I haven't had this happen to me recently so my memory is a little vague but I believe when driving in conditions like you mentioned above I will hear the 3 "pew pew pew" sounds and will feel 3 very soft and short jumps in the steering wheel (not feeling a full cell phone long vibration).

Personally, I wish it vibrated as per the video. The pew pew pew is kind of silly. My friends always wonder if its coming out of the a/c vents lol.

It must be my old ears but at the promo video I did not hear anything more than a "pew" at the scenario where the adjacent lane was empty. There should not be any audible warning but one cannot avoid some noise from the steering wheel vibrator.
At the scenario where the adjacent lane was occupied and the driver activated the blinker, the car did give a clear warning tone but this was not the scenario where we perhaps perceive the car behaviour differently.

If you choose the Assistance Info Display, it will show the front end of a car at the bottom. Unless its green along the sides of the car the lane departure warning on the steering wheel won't vibrate. When it's not green, that's telling you the camera system cannot read or see any lane lines. I searched for a few hours to find out why mine kept turning green and finally found it on pages 246-247. I also read it only works at 40mph and above.
