Dealer today notified me today that my 2016 completed on 2 July and sitting at German port will delayed making ship because of excess 2015 inventory

I doubt it's that more so like Lovin pointed out, cars will be held for the official release date regardless of how early it is built

Excess inventory of other 2015 Mercedes model I believe, but not 2015 W222s.

My understanding is that in the US there is excess inventory of 2015 W222s. The initial release was supposed to be July for 2016 models but that was pushed back to August for the '16s.

Got confirmation today. Car lands in Brunswick Ga tomorrow. Do not yet have release date from MB as they are trying to burn of 2015 inventory.

Is this a custom order? Why would they care? It's not like you'd be buying a random 2015. You ordered a specific 2016, right??

Correct it is a custom ordered 2016.

Is it too late for you to do EDP? My understanding is that if you do European Delivery, they ship the car pretty much right away after you turn it back in as at that point the car has essentially been already sold and delivered.
