Unhappy New S550 Coupe Whining Noise

HI members! Im new here and just bought a S550 Coupe yesterday! Driving today on freeway, i noticed wind noise coming from driver's side door and there is a humming noise from what it appears to be from 1500-2000 rpm and in after 60 mph and stops above 85 mph.. seems to be coming from back of the car... it is noticeable ... the wind noise is going to be taken care by the dealer tomm.. but any thoughts about the whining/humming noise!

any help will be much appreciated!

There's another thread about a whining humming noise at the RPM you specified.

My S550 sedan had this - I took it in and it turned out to be a faulty ABC Pump.

Fixed it and no more noise.

Abc i beleive is Active body control? Thats for the confort and sport mode settings correct?
I took it today and the shop foreman test drove it and indeed noticed the humming above 65 mph. And somehow it stops above 85 mph. Lets see what they say...

Sorry about my lack of knowledge. Im new to benz and this is my first mercedes

Yea, ABC / Active Body Control.

When I noticed on mine that it was making the humming noise only at the 1500-2000 RPM I thought it was the transmission. I really couldn't understand how it would be anything else.

They replaced the ABC Pump and the noise is gone. Above 85mph on mine - I heard no noise, or don't recall hearing.

It's definitely worth a shot though - the symptoms sound very similar.

See my posts on whining noise and wind noise on my S600. Hope you have better luck getting your issues resolved. My car has spent almost 4 weeks at the dealer - without resolution. Look forward to your further posts.

Assuming OP is in the US, it can't be the ABC pump... the S550 Coupe is available only as a 4matic, which is not available with ABC.

Update : The seals have been replaced and the wind noise is gone. But they still cant seem to figure out the humming noise. Two techs drove the car and heard the noise. Its been 5 days and they dont know how long it will take or what the problem is

I have a 2015 S550 sedan and I hear a faint, hum/whine noise which sounds like it is coming from the area of the floor in the rear seat area. It comes and goes with on throttle/off throttle, but I am able to maintain it if I try. I felt it was just the normal mechanicals working, but my 10K service is coming up, so I'll mention it and see what they say.

Update :

Went to dealer today and checked the car. The humming noise seems to be coming from glove box/engine firewall area. They have checked everything and still cant get to the root of the problem. Shop foreman said they will ping mercedes about the issue and see if anyone else have had any similar problems. Called the mercedes benz customer care and they will contact me soon about possible resolution.

Has anyone ever had their car replaced by mercedes under such circumstances? The car now has been in dealership for 8 days and still no ETA on the fix.

The longer they have the car the better your case will be for potential replacement. The good news is they have verified the problem and are taking steps to hopefully rectify the issue. What was the production date for your car?

Its a 2015 S550 coupe. I only had it for one day. It sat in the dealership day after i bought it. So i dont have much info on it. I bought the car with 1,000 miles on it. And they said it was a lease return. And carfax showed that too.

A lease return with 1,000 miles. I wonder what that meant. Did you inquire?

It seems really unlikely on a car with so few miles, but a whine from the rear of the car that goes away under power but gets loud when coasting sounds exactly like bad differential bearings. Might be worth ruling out.

The tech and foreman today said they used stethescope and narroed the area of noise down to the front of the car. Behind glove compartment and near engine firewall area. They taped up everything and the windshield. And its not any of them causing the whining noise. They are claiming its a "wind" leaking into the cabin somewhere.

But you only hear the humming sound above 65 mph and stops above 80.
