S550 Cabriolet

HI everyone,

I just picked up my new S550 cabriolet and it's a great car. Replaced a Bentley GTC and the S class is every bit as good. Just wondered if anyone has experienced the seat belt flapping in the wind and tugging on your shoulder when driving with top and windows down. Nothing major but a little annoying.

When I have all four windows down on my S coupe this occurs at certain times...I posted about it in the C217 forum. Congrats on the new car.

What year was your Bentley? I would VERY much like to read your detailed comparison of the two cars, as I am in the market for a new luxury convertible and considering both. My brain tells me MB, but the Bentley tugs at my heart strings.

The Bentley is basically an "old car" compared to the new S Class Cab. Please embellish as to just HOW it is "every bit as good," as I thought the S should run rings around the GTC, no?

Sorry for the late reply but i am struggling to upload from my iPad or iPhone.
I don't think the MB runs rings around my Bentley( which was a 2008). The bentley was a GTC with the W12 engine and although it short on electronics compared to the s-class(even the latest Bentleys are the same) I don't think it needs them. The ride on the Bentley is superb, it's super quiet with the top up and the power is effortless. There is nothing that compares with the quality of the materials and the Fit & Finish is good. For a GT, I see no better looking car both exterior and interior. Take a look at the leather and wood inside a Bentley. In terms of the S class (based on two days of ownership) the car is great. Ride almost as good, super quite with both top up or down, ample power and drives well. Materials are not as good (it's a $100K cheaper) but the Fit & Finish is excellent. I don't think Bentley will ever compete with the electronic and innovation of an S-class but I'm not sure thats why you buy a Bentley
So, I miss my Bentley for it's looks and quality of material, but I love my new S-class. It's a great package and great value. I'm sure I will be buying MB from now on.
Thanks for all the comments from everyone. Already enjoying the Forum!

Thanks so much for your thoughts on the Bentley and your new S Cabriolet.
I guess my biggest gripe with the new Cab, is that the color palette is decidedly unexciting for both the interior and exterior and just nothing more than what's been available on the S Coupe. I mean, this is a convertible. It's not meant for every day commuting, it's for FUN times. This is Cary Grant & Grace Kelly, wind in their hair driving along the coast to some romantic getaway! That's what I see when I look for a big, luxury drop top, but the Germans just see gray skies all the time.

I realize that many here find the current color offerings just fine and I'm actually very jealous of you all, as I wish it were that easy for me. I'm not asking MB to build a different car, I'm just asking them to make it more fun and not just another 50 shades of gray.

Playing with the Bentley configurator, these photos show what I would probably go for. Would it kill MB to offer their sexy new S Cab in some sexy, new colors? It would hardly cost them a dime and I believe that it would set their sales of this new car on fire.

One last thing: The MB Configuerator is DOG SHxT! The systems used by Porsche, Bentley & others make MB's system a joke!
