Anybody know about TPMS valve stems/sensors?

I know that the TPMS valve stems in my old 2004 SL500 supposedly had batteries in them, that would go bad after 3 or so years, necessitating replacement. Does anyone know if the ones used in the W222 have batteries as well? If so, how long do they last? If you have a spare set of wheels with the TPMS valve stems and you don’t use them for a year or two, will the sensors usually still work?

They should work no prblm. Im not 100% sure they have batteries..most likely do. They last a very long time tho. I switch wheels on pretty much all of my cars and usually just get a new set.

We use a couple of sets for the SL and have done so with our 2013 for several years. Never had a battery failure on those over several years but they are on/off annually. On the old R230 SL, dead batteries were a common experience even though the underlying tech really hasn't changed...

Don’t you have to do something to reset the system after you change the wheels?

Incredible how they try to sucker people out of money! Over on the AMG side a Canadian MB dealer wanted to charge $300 for resetting the car to work with separate set of snows. For me that kills a business relationship and I would ding the dealer if the manager wouldn't have anything decent to say...

Sad people try to scam. I guess they see the type of car and assume you know nothing...Im a wheel guy so i change wheels on everything, either upgrade to largest stock size or some nice custom wheels, so im always changing something. I find the best bet is to get your own sensors from ebay brand new and bring them with you to have the shop change.

Sensors do have battery, MB claims life expectancy is approximately 7 years.
