whining noise
i'm getting a whining noise noticeable at lower speeds up-to 30mph and 1300 revs. When i hear it i switch to neutral and it disappears. Doesn't happen at rest in neutral when i rev the engine...tranny? AC on/off and radio on/off have no effect. I have the 450 4matic with 3500 miles on it..anyone experience anything like this? I'll have to take it to MB I'm sure at some point soon.

had the same issue with my C300 few years ago. Had to drive with the service manager to demonstrate the noise - once he heard it he put ‘electronic ears’ on it and it was so obvious. He changed the tranny. I hope it’s not the same on my new 450.

My 2014 had speed dependent whine, fixed by implementing 2 TSB's on rear axle, One rear axle was replaced. This was for early production cars

“A test drive must be performed. For accurate analysis (localization) of the noise, use the "Steelman Chassis Ear" noise diagnosis kit.” Request shop foreman perform a test drive with you, reference following bulletins.

You, sir, were absolutely right in your diagnosis. Had the foreman out for a test drive with me, I was able to duplicate the sound. He said it had to do with the right rear axle having to be replaced with a noise dampening one.

2014 S550 4Matic. Thanks for posting. I have a similar whine, rear passenger axle between 55 & 65. Can reproduce, trip scheduled to dealer. Car is CPO so should be covered. With all the insulation, it must be way louder, just muffled so much due to the great noise insulating they do.
