MBUSA website for the 18 still states the DVD/CD player comes with the rear entertainment package.
As a side note, the 18 comes pre-wired to install a single disk CD player in the glove box. MB does have a part number for that CD/DVD player.
Rear Seat Entertainment systemOptional / $2,650Monitors built into the front head restraints offer first-rate entertainment to the second row. The Best of Mercedes & AMG
I do know it has usb and hdmi inputs for sure. You could hook up Apple TV or a ruku no problem. Or your phone for sure. But I think it does have a DVD player.
The screens also allow the rear occupant to control the whole car as well as listen to music from a different source independently
Can you please check if iphone or ipad display can be mirrored to the screen? Say you are watching netflix movie on iphone, can you display the audio and video on the rear monitors?
or can you somehow access Netflix, you tube etc without hooking up apple TV or roku? Is it possible to operate both screens independently?
I am trying to understand typical use case scenarious to justify the purchase.
Appreciate your feedback.!
I will look today in my 18 and get back to you.

DVD player is located below rear HVAC controls.
Just discovered they have eliminated the music register HD along with the eliminated CD drive. We’re down to SD cards and USB devices.
The Japanese minivans seem to have superior rear entertainment systems.
I suggest you go to the dealer before you place an order and make their product specialist take you thru a car completely beforehand. You can’t assume the 2018 S Class is everything the 222 was but more tech. They have deleted some useful features and accessories and there are differences. Some you’ll like; some you may not. And then there’s the exterior noise issue, at least with my 560.

The Apple TV you would need WiFi you can use your phone or car as hot spot. The outlet in arm rest works for this as well as the hdmi connection.
I havnt tried it yet but I’m pretty sure you can connect ur phone directly to the screens in the back and play from your phone. I will have to try it

Is there a way to stream YouTube onto the front screen - obviously when the car is stationary?

And seriously, remember when we just drove a car, listening FM and AM radio and the back seat passengers just drifted off mindlessly looking out the windows for entertainment or talking to the front passengers for fun. I miss those days sometimes. I can't even figure out how to work the climate control and get the fan speed to work on my feet too. I've spent an hour today while driving, pressing every button and used the mouse and still couldn't figure it out. Truly sad! I really long for controls that were totally intuitive and easy to use. For something as important an face and leg vents, you'd think there would just be a button for that freakin' thing on the dash or console. Arghhhh, and no, I haven't taken out my manual yet. I just don't want to. I have got to figure it out on my own.
