Rear Seat Entertainment Package for MY 2018

Rear Seat Entertainment Package for MY 2018
I spec'd my car with rear seat entertainment package. Talking to my dealer today, he mentioned they are a permanent fixture and can not be removed on demand. He also mentioned there is no bluetooth capability so movies etc can not be streamed. With no DVD or CD player in 2018 models, he was struggling to justify why one should order it. It is an expensive option ($2650).
Anyone have any idea what they are good for except attracting attention and looking cool?
Thanks in advance..

I agree that if you do not order the rear seat entertainment package the '18 does not come with a CD/DVD player. But if you buy the rear seat entertainment package the DVD/CD player is placed in the rear seat area either attached to the rear of the center console or like my '16 S with the Exec Rear Seat Package Plus (4 seater) the DVD/CD player is located between the two rear seats near the rear deck area.
MBUSA website for the 18 still states the DVD/CD player comes with the rear entertainment package.
As a side note, the 18 comes pre-wired to install a single disk CD player in the glove box. MB does have a part number for that CD/DVD player.

My family has tried to stream Netflix. It does not work on my '16 through the very slow internet connection to the car--maybe the 18 will work but I doubt it based on my experience. Let me know if you ultimately figure out how to use Netflix streaming once you have your car.

I do know it has usb and hdmi inputs for sure. You could hook up Apple TV or a ruku no problem. Or your phone for sure. But I think it does have a DVD player.
The screens also allow the rear occupant to control the whole car as well as listen to music from a different source independently

Thank you !
Can you please check if iphone or ipad display can be mirrored to the screen? Say you are watching netflix movie on iphone, can you display the audio and video on the rear monitors?
or can you somehow access Netflix, you tube etc without hooking up apple TV or roku? Is it possible to operate both screens independently?
I am trying to understand typical use case scenarious to justify the purchase.
Appreciate your feedback.!
I will look today in my 18 and get back to you.

I regret ordering the rear entertainment package plus rear seat massage. Poorly integrated and awkward to use. Can’t even turn on rear seat massage without using the wireless remote and ramping thru sub menus on the rear screen. Driver can’t control rear seat massage.
DVD player is located below rear HVAC controls.
Just discovered they have eliminated the music register HD along with the eliminated CD drive. We’re down to SD cards and USB devices.
The Japanese minivans seem to have superior rear entertainment systems.
I suggest you go to the dealer before you place an order and make their product specialist take you thru a car completely beforehand. You can’t assume the 2018 S Class is everything the 222 was but more tech. They have deleted some useful features and accessories and there are differences. Some you’ll like; some you may not. And then there’s the exterior noise issue, at least with my 560.

You can save any movies to thumb drives to watch or obv dvd.
The Apple TV you would need WiFi you can use your phone or car as hot spot. The outlet in arm rest works for this as well as the hdmi connection.
I havnt tried it yet but I’m pretty sure you can connect ur phone directly to the screens in the back and play from your phone. I will have to try it

Is there a way to stream YouTube onto the front screen - obviously when the car is stationary?

This has been an interesting thread. I was a bit sad when I got my S63 car home on Saturday to realize... wow, I bought a car without that cool looking rear screen set up and rear massage feature. It didn't come on the car I picked so "oh well". But, after reading this thread, I'm not too worried about it now.
And seriously, remember when we just drove a car, listening FM and AM radio and the back seat passengers just drifted off mindlessly looking out the windows for entertainment or talking to the front passengers for fun. I miss those days sometimes. I can't even figure out how to work the climate control and get the fan speed to work on my feet too. I've spent an hour today while driving, pressing every button and used the mouse and still couldn't figure it out. Truly sad! I really long for controls that were totally intuitive and easy to use. For something as important an face and leg vents, you'd think there would just be a button for that freakin' thing on the dash or console. Arghhhh, and no, I haven't taken out my manual yet. I just don't want to. I have got to figure it out on my own.
