Hit Pot Hole, No Rim Damage But Pirelli Shot
My girlfriend hit a pot hole on her way back from Joshua Tree, no rim damage but I'm chagrinned because the tire had to be replaced.
The mark on the rim is rubber from the tire only.

Btw benz is notorious for this. I call them mercedes pizza cutters. The rim actually pierces the sidewall and ruins the tire. If the tire or rim had a slight different design it wouldnt happen.

Run flat or extended mobility tires are notorious for developing these bubbles after the slightest trauma or agressive bump. My father-in-law drove for a tire distributor after he retired and he always had good information on trends or inside info from the industry. He said that even small pot holes or bumps can cause run flats to exhibit those bulges or bumps.
While the tire replacement will cause some pain, at least the wheel was unaffected (or it seems). You may learn it was damaged when you attempt to replace or balance the tire.
I wonder how difficult it would be to bill the municipality for your damage.

My wife hit a pothole and did bend the rim. Taking the rim to get it put back into shape today. About to leave the house as I type. Didn't know why I was getting a light shuddering feeling since 6 months ago but yesterday it was discovered as I had my tires balanced.

Here is a picture of the huge hole in my run flat on my 16 S550 4matic. I hit a pot hole on the PA turnpike today at about 60 mph at the OH/PA line. Drove another 40 miles on the run flat with a hole on the side wall. I can put my entire fist through the side wall.
I have become a believer in run flats after this incident.

We drove across Ohio traveling from PA to St Louis MO. That was the most nerve-wracking drive of my life, and I drove through combat from Kuwait to Baghdad in March 2003. The potholes in Western PA and Ohio were the worst I have ever seen. I’ve seen airstrips after bombings that weren’t that bad (yes, literally). There were heavy duty snow plows on the shoulder with broken suspension / steering and even missing wheels.
My sympathies for those who live in those areas and travel the roads frequently, especially if you trying to own a nice vehicle. It makes owning a nice vehicle a total commitment.

I have a 25+ year relationship with them and they have gone to bat for me many many times with my MB cars with MBUSA. Plus the tires are not more expensive at the dealership. I used to be the guy buying my tires at Tirerack and bringing them to the same dealership to get them put on. So I understand what you are saying but in the long run I do not save any money going somewhere else plus I continue to build goodwill--which about a month ago they and MBUSA saved me $6000 on my son's out of warranty 2013 E350 by replacing the leaking gas tank and the brake lines that were corroded. Another plus--the dealership is within 1/2 mile of my office.

Hey buddy.... Should have rims back soon! Will send photos.... On topic, sort of, can you give me the contact name and # of dealer that helped you with the CPO. Need to find out if they will cover the Door Handle back lights. Still under CPO, my local dealer said not covered. They just keep failing....

My 2014 had Goodyear RF and had many flats that I was able to get patched never was the sidewall compromised. My 2017 has pirelli RFT and already replaced 3 tires due to sidewall damage. This is anecdotal but it appears Goodyear RFT have strong sidewalls but weak on the tread ( Harsher ride compared ) while the Pirelli RFT had a much better ride but really weak sidewalls. The Pirelli each time had a tear on the sidewall just like yours.
