Center Display Gauges
Hi...."newbie" here.....just got a 2015 S550 and here is a couple of questions. First, if you scroll down on the Trip menu, you get two side by side horizontal graphs, one for real time MPG and the other next to it is "what" ?? (attached jpg) Second ....how does one alter the speed of the seat massage options ?

Can’t change seat massage speed. The right box is the amount of charge,at least on my bmw it would charge more when coasting or slowing. I honk it has t do with clutch by the alternator, when accelerating maybe disengage the alternator, engage it when coasting or braking. That’s my guess for th been as well.

Not sure what You are describing but my take is somewhat innovative for M.B.. I have owned hybrids and all electric cars and this kind of info shows up as the effect from regenerative braking as the percent of charge being sent back to the battery ( the ones actually driving the vehicle )......however this function would be a first for M.B. if indeed it was a sign that juice was being sent back to the battery ( the starter in this case) everytime one brakes or slows down. Wow.....what have I discovered ?? lol

It is for regenerative braking. When you drive at speed and take the foot of the gas you will see the bar go to max.
On our E63s, we actual have a "Sail" mode. Literally shows the image of a sail boat
(The vehicle "sails", using its own, current kinetic energy for a certain distance. This results in further fuel savings. The clutch is reengaged as soon as the driver operates the accelerator or brake pedal. The "sailing" function is indicated in the AMG instrument cluster by a new icon depicting a stylised sailing yacht)

So is it really "regenerative"? I don't see how the kinetic energy is stored for re-use in an ICE. Even if the energy went to the battery, how does battery power get put into the drivetrain? I suppose it is energy that doesn't have to be spared by the alternator...?

It’s not the way an EV would use it BMW has the same thing. They call it efficient dynamics.

The little energy sent back to the main battery is not really for re-use but rather to prevent the battery from depleting or going dead from the heavy electronic use that the many car's electronics and computers would eventually do if the car was not used/run often enough. My Jaguar had to be attached to a trickle charger when left alone too long and my previous CLS had to have a stronger battery to prevent electrical glitches ( a minimum of 170 reserve capacity) that M.B. Interstate batteries could not handle especially with age.
