Key FOB Break Ins

Saw this on the local news this morning. What are some safeguards against this happening to any of us?

If you have a pre-18 model you can hit the lock button twice on your fob to disable the frequency broadcast. If you have a 18+ model, your fob has a motion sensor that after the fob is stationary for ~2 minutes, it stops broadcasting the frequency.
