Just recently, I noticed I was loosing air from one of my tires as the pressure gauge indicated it was low. I filled it up after looking for any nails, but did not find any. Within just 24 hours, the pressure went down again. I took it to a tire repair shop and they took the rim off and the rim was cracked. The tire was fine. The tech told me that he sees this quite often in Mercedes and BMW rims for some reason.

I have a 2015 S550, and had a 2014 a couple of years ago, and the same thing happened. I called my dealership and since I am still under the factory warranty, asked them it was covered. They said no.

Has anyone else had issues with their rims? If so, were you able to get it covered under warranty?

have the rim shop weld the wheel if its a minor crack and be done.

I had a 19" AMG rim crack at the inner edge of the barrel. I suspect it is the run flat tire with very rigid sidewalls on Merc and BMW's that cause this. You hit a bump just right and the shock ends up cracking the edge of the wheel.

Had similar episode on 231. Wheel had multiple (5-6) cracks around perimeter. No warranty coverage.

Also had a cracked rim that would slowly lose air. Mercedes replaced it under wheel and tire warranty.

I have a 2019 S570. I've had 2 cracked wheel rims since new. First was from new and replaced under warranty, second under wheel and tire insurance. Dealer tells me they get lots on S class. Glad I took insurance..

Isn’t this amazing? Isn’t it ridiculous? I mean how long have new cars been coming with alloy wheels? Can’t they figure out a way to make them stronger, or do they just consider it an additional income stream to keep selling new wheels and wheel insurance policies? AND, they keep shoving larger diameter wheels with incredibly shrinking sidewalls down our throats, not to mention run flat tires. Go with 18” wheels and nice, comfy, conventional tires and at least you have a fighting chance.

Agree entirely! Ordered a 2018 which had to converted to 2019 and told no 18 inch rims available only 20 inch. Alway have problems with low profile.

Yes car makers are trying to find additional revenue streams. The 19" RFTs is one such easy means to make buyers come back and spend more money purchasing new rims and tires, or spend ahead in terms of all these wheel insurance stuff. Either way the dealer and/or Mercedes make money on these. Sure not all of them go to the dealerships to purchase new tires and wheels, but the % of population who do is sufficient to keep this as a revenue stream.

In fact I remember reading a while ago that 17" and 18" wheels are in fact the sweet spot even for racing. If you have to go 19", then definitely do not go with RFTs - replace them with non-RFTs. The ride quality is just abysmal with RFTs.

I just went to the MBUSA Configurator and built a 2020 S560 sedan. It shows 18” wheels as available to order. Of course, the idiotic MBUSA IT people STILL don’t show the Wood/Leather Steering Wheel as an available option. Damn! If I could be head of MBUSA for ONE HOUR! I’d fire the entire IT Department (probably one person) and change it so that anything available in Germany, that is legal in the USA, is AVAILABLE in the USA.

Haha, yes the mbusa configurator feels like somebody's college intern project. The German and other European configurators are ages ahead. In many models you also will hit this weird error that will not let you select one of the packages or options, even though you can build them with those packages/options while ordering at your dealer.

I'm sure it's one of those things where they contracted the website design to some company and some poor soul on MBUSA's side just updates the specs, packages, options, etc. for new models but they are not bothered with revamping the website altogether. Even the specs are wrong sometimes. My 2019 C63S rim sizes and the tire width are completely wrong on the mbusa's website for instance.

Just for fun, go to the Bentley site and use their configurator. Great big, giant, juggernaut Mercedes-Benz USA should have a website that puts Bentley to shame, but it’s the other way around. I am hoping Bentley stays with super competitive leases with the New Flying Spur coming out next year. If they do and I like the way the car drives, I’m outta here!

I Purchased a CPO and when I I took delivery the Rear wheel had low air. They filled it up in the next day It was low again. I took it to the shop and they check the wheel and it had a small crack on the inside rim. They replaced it with a new one and have not had a problem since. I have 20 inch AMG’s with run flats.

Went for my 40 K service last week found minor crack in front rim, had rim and tire warranty , welded and done. I have 19 inch RFT's.

so not sure what you pay to have that done, near me its about 80 bux to have it welded by a good shop.

The wheels are too big and the tire side walls are too short.

And the drivers of big luxury cars don't seem to be able to miss pot holes.

Follow up on mine. I originally had the passenger rear rim cracked, and took it in to be repaired. They found a crack in 2 other rims. Had all 3 rims welded and repaired. FYI, the car runs smoother than when I bought it. I guess the rim issue significantly effected the ride quality.
