2016 S550 noise above rear right wheel when engine shut off.

I just noticed this weird noise coming from rear right wheel area:

The noise is present after I drive the car for a while and when the car is parked and engine is turned off. The noise lasts for about a minute and stops on its own.

Is this noise normal?

I think air compressor to raise ride height to level. My E wagon does this when I back into garage sometimes. Mine is only air in the back - no air body control - I assume S is air all the way around.

It does sound like a compressor noise, but when ride height is normally adjusted when you unlock the car, it definitely sounds less noisy and the noise is different high pitch noise, unlike this sound.

Did you **** anyone off lately???? Run....

I think at a minimum, there are 3 possible pumps in the rear that can cause noise...

1. Sounds like a defective compressor. For height, it should only run when the car is running. As a test, park the car, with engine running, press the button to raise the car, then go back and listen while the car is raising, watch the car and make sure it will raise properly at all 4 wheels, then turn off the car. Car should stay up for at least 5 minutes.

2. Open Gas cap and see if the sound changes, could be fuel pump...

3. Turn on massaging seats if you have them, also a pump for them that could be bad.

Went to Mercedes and asked if this is something to be concerned about. They told me that there is nothing there other than gas tank evaporator fan and fuel pump that is submerged inside tank, so even if it were making noise it would not be that loud. So basically, since I can't reproduce this noise at will, nor does it happen every day, the advice is "wait and see if it gets more regular or worse 'service engine light' comes on if some electric part fails".

My 2014 has a bunch of noises when I shut it off after driving. Some at rear and some engine compartment. Air suspension compressor definitely not one of them. Does not run with out key on.
My has the same noise at rear as yours. Suspect fuel pump or emissions stuff.

According to Mercedes technician the fuel pump or air compressor do not run when engine is shut off. That only leaves fuel vapor fan or similar A/C fan that removes residual condensation and/or smell from the system.

Have the same noise very faint from front right wheel area.

I know my RR makes a bunch of random noises when turned off. Sometimes it doesn’t do them other times it does.

I’m going to chalk it up as being normal if so many people have it. I’m one of those people that like to overthink and make a problem out of nothing when it comes to cars and noises so I’m going to just forget about it LOL
