Heater blowing cold air on 2015 S550
No heat from heater, and no warranty left. Anyone know what it might be?
I'm sure it has nothing to do with this, but I had the issue with AC mold stench, changed the cabin filters and sprayed anti-mold on the evaporator. Smell is completely gone. I drove around a couple of months without the actual filters in to make sure the smell is gone. Had the heater on and off to make sure it gets dried out and has no smell (during that couple of months). New filters in, and everything put back perfectly, so no clue why this happened.
Anyway, coolant temp is 190F, so I don't know why there is absolutely no heat whatsoever on max setting.
Edit: I read something on the internet about a bad Heater Control Solenoid Valve. Something under the windshield wipers.

Be sure you aren't low on coolant. This is a fairly common culprit in older cars but with all the electronics in these, probably something else. Anyway, it simple to check and worth a shot. Good luck.

If the dealer quoted you 700 bucks I assume that meant that they diagnosed the problem and the 700 bucks was the cost to fix. Find out what they diagnosed and post it here. This forum could probably walk you through the process of fixing or recommend an indy.

I self diagnosed it, so it might be something else, but with everything I have read, the issue matches. It could be something else, but it makes sense that it's the heater control valve.
The dealer did not see the car, but two dealers and another certified mechanic I know, same the same thing. I also called a 2nd dealership in another state, and heard the same thing.
So they quoted around $95 for the part (control valve), and 2 hours of labor.
Dealer #1 Orange County - $700
Dealer #2 Scottsdale, Arizona $500
Non-dealer mechanic, $400 (if cash)
Coldest it gets in Los Angeles is 45F, so it's tolerable for the time being.
