What I discoverd on WIS

For some reason or another I was looking in WIS and ran across the S class fire extinguisher for the passenger compartment. Now my car is not equipped with it but strangely the front of the seat is still set up to accept the fire extinguisher the front of the seat cover is even hinged as you can see. Go figure.

Front of passenger seat.

Fire extinguisher would go in here.

My car is a 2016 maybach. The panel is fixed as there is NO release piece that is seen in WIS. What I discovered is if you go from the bottom of the seat under the cover we are talking about and push from the inside TOP of the cover outward (as if to open) sure enough it simply pops open.

If there is ever a fire in my car, I hope it burns to the street.

For MB’s, the fire extinguisher is an a la carte option in Europe and other countries.
It is normally mounted to the seat frame, not loose and the cover will be gone.

I think you can get them on Porsche’s in the US but Mercedes chooses not to have that option.

We had those in our cars and almost felt uneasy not having one in the US.

In Germany, one is obliged to assist when seeing an accident so it comes in handy.

On a side note it is interesting to see that the Maybach still had the compartments. On the S-Class they removed them during the 2015 model year....

In the images in parts catalog the door I have opened has a latch that is there for opening the door to access the fire extinguisher. So in this instance the extinguisher sits behind the door.

Depends...S550 and E350 Coupe are fully insured....no catastrophe if either burns to the ground...unless there are personal items in there worth saving. Another senario....have 7+ years of time, effort, and $$$ into the resto-modded 928 and aboslutely would try and save the car if a fire were to happen. YMMV. T

Couple of previously owned E350 sedans had flip out compartments built into the front seats. Convenient storage for sunglasses, etc, Wish the S had them. T

They changed it mid year as far as I remember. There are some old threads about it.

interesting. Then the extinguisher is much smaller than the older ones to fit in this small compartment.

will try to find some pics...

2015 S63 sedan
I was looking at my 15 S63 and the compartment below the passenger seat barely opens and it's felt lined with no attachments inside. Maybe because it's a US model.

Here the on of the old threads about it. If the car was build in 2014 it will have them, maybe Jan 15. Mid-model year change.
