Upgrade to the Burmester High-End 3D Surround Sound system

Hi everyone,

Didn't order my S560 with the Burmester High-End 3D Surrounded Sound System and interested to know if Mercedes supplies the parts through the dealer. Has anyone done this upgrade?

You would need a new center console, you would need to tear out your interior to install all the speakers, you would need to install the 1500 watt amp in the trunk along with the subwoofer.................otherwise put its probably not viable.

Sadly the 3d system is not ordered much but dam if you have it (i do) it is priceless and I cannot recommend overlooking this unless the owner is deaf. It is just that good even for $6000 plus dollars.

I wanted it but I need the trunk space and it cuts into trunk space way too much.

I might suggest taking the car to a good auto sound system shop and have them see what they can to do enhance the base system. I suspect they would add a subwoofer to the trunk and possibly change out a couple door speakers.

Just a thought.

I think for what would be entailed in the way of money, time, headaches and possibly screwing up the factory warranty, if I really had to have it, I’d get with the dealer and see just what they may do on ordering a new car and taking yours back. Either way, it will be very expensive. If you leased your car, you might find someone to take over the lease and move to a new car.

Can someone here post photos of exactly what trunk space is lost with the 3D? Is it just the two cubbyholes at the sides of the trunk or is there more?

I personally dont think the trunk space in my Maybach is impinged by the 3D system. Technically the refrigerator is the big trunk space monster BUT it is easily removed if one needs more space.

It’s not a popular upgrade because of the steep 6k price, especially when the stock Burmester standard audio is adequate for most people. Magic Body Control and High End Burmester are my two favorite options. High end Burmester doesn’t do much with crappy sources like radio or Sirius XM but with a high quality source like CD or quality MP3, it is amazing. It is impossible to upgrade to it. my trunk space is limited by the rear executive seat option. I don’t think the audio takes away much space.

Yes it is extensive and yes it does not sound special with crappy music sources but with a good source its the best sound system I ever herd and worth every penny, Mind you on my other car it also has the Burmeister upgrade and the ceramic brake system which is really $$ but once you drive those brakes and notice they have ZERO brake dust you say dam thats nice. Wish my Maybach had them because the wheels are a mess to clean every time I wash it from brake dust.

Katie

PS post about is the 16 Maybach trunk with the 3d system, fridge and if has the executive rear seat package.

I can confirm that the space is reduced a lot...

In combination with the rear seating package , the trunk space is "cabrio-like" space

The space is reduced in highth mainly (not in depth), so you can store larger items.

Sound system makes it narrow. And if you have executive seats in the rear , it will make it even smaller

Ya it wouldn't have worked for me. I actually had to even remove the lower panel in my car and remove the lift up door (2 screws) to fit all my sports gear in the trunk. I do notice to with the regular Burmester surround system it sounds a lot better with surround turned off and leaving the it on "front" setting. Also music source is huge, If I just stream regular music of the pandora or internet radio it does not sound that great. If i put in a good high quality CD or a USB HQ recording it sounds great. I dunno if I ever woulda found a car that had it as I recently bought my E550 used and it's a relatively rare option that most people don't get.

Well I put pictures of my car with the 3D system and the executive rear seat package. Not sure how much bigger it could be without the 3d system.

I am such a fan of the Carbon Ceramic Brakes option, that I retrofitted them to my little SL450, along with AMG forged wheels and I never drive fast. It was a VERY expensive upgrade, which I did about 90% for the ZERO DUST factor and 10% for how cool they look. MB really should make these fabulous brakes available across all models and trim levels, like Porsche does, not just for the AMG models. Not only do the wheels remain near spotless after weeks without a wash, the rest of my car seems to remain cleaner much longer as well.

The ceramic brake upgrade is a 16K price tag, anyone considering it might just want to sell their car and upgrade. I'd turn in my car and get a used/CPO AMG S63.

The problem is that the CCB brake option is ONLY available on AMG models. You could get them on the S63 & S65 sedans, but they are not available to order on the other W222 models, which to me, is just plain NUTS! If somebody wants to pay the price, why not? Not everyone—not NEARLY everyone—wants a full blown AMG car, but would like to be able to pick & choose some of the “bolt on” AMG goodies. By the way, the CCB brakes simply bolted onto my SL, easy-peasy!
