CPO available to second owner?

Will a dealer offer CPO inspection/classification to a 2nd owner car still under factory waranty?

WAG as to what a CPO inspection would cost?

Thanks

You can get an extended warranty from Mercedes without an inspection if the car is still under factory warranty. I don’t think you can CPO a car while it remains in private hands. It is only available for used cars that are sold by the dealer that are less than 4 years old with fewer than 60K miles. Extended warranty is more comprehensive than a CPO, but the CPO can be better in a scenario here the driver puts on a lot of miles as CPO has no mileage limits. More importantly, I’d make sure that the car has documented regular interval services.

Thank you for the explanation. Agree completely on records.

The CPO warranty is unlimited mileage. The extended warranty only goes up to 7/75 or 7/100k. You can buy the extended warranty from any MB dealer in the country. There are several listed in the extended warranty sub forum and there's a few names that get mentioned all the time. Email them your VIN to make sure you qualify for it and see what kind of quotes you get. You can also transfer the extended and CPO warranty when selling the car to a private party but it expires when trading it in to a dealer. On the extended warranty I believe you can get your money back if you don't use it. I don't think that's the case with the CPO. Basically they're both similar but slightly different.

Be aware that Mercedes changed the rules on MB ELW a few years ago. You cannot buy the Merc ELW if the car has been through an auction before, or even sold by a non Merc dealer. I purchased a 2015 in 2017 with 17K miles on it, well within warranty and MB would not sell me the ELW because I purchased the car through a broker. I decided at the time to just run without a ELW. 3 years and 24K miles later and the car has performed flawlessly with no issues requiring repair. I have only done maint items like tires brakes and fluids. Saved about 3.5K if I recall as that is about what the cheapest dealer I found wanted for the ELW. These ELW's are a scam as far as I can tell as the odds are that you are not going to rack up anywhere near the claims that you pay for the ELW.

When the 3-year lease was up on my wife’s 2016 E350 sedan, we had our dealer “CPO” the car for us. They did the big inspection, replaced two tires with matching Michelin’s and actually sold the car to us for reasonably less than MBUSA wanted. That was about two years ago. Now, we just purchased a two year extension of the CPO warranty, which gives us unlimited mileage. Will probably keep the car for another six to twelve months and then sell it, but will be able to sell it with the warranty extension and unlimited miles, which is transferable.

Talking The MB ELW rules changed but there are huge holes in their computer-system

If you acquired your MB from a broker, individual, or any other non-MB affiliated 3rd party you can purchase a MB ELW from your Mercedes dealer of choice if the name of the original (first) owner has not been changed in MB's system...which rarely happens. I was aware of the very MB policy that Superpop references, here in the above post, and decided to call the finance dept of my local dealership to inquire about purchasing an ELW. Within 10 seconds, the lady said no problem as the original owner of the vehicle is still listed in our system...that will be $4200 for 3yrs/75000 miles, no deductible for a MB ELW.

Some here on the forum go nuts at the thought of purchasing an extended warranty. Not being very good with statistics and determining probabilities (red-neck from the south), I surveyed a bunch of folks in the know: multiple MB Service Managers, Service Advisers, Shop Foremen, Service Technicians, and Indies. As a group, the overwhelming conclusion on what can go wrong with the S-Class was summarized as follows:

1. "it's not the mechanical's of the car that will bite you from a repair stand-point...solid car and well engineered
2. the reason I would purchase an extended warranty if I was you is due to the number of computers and related software in the car...extremely complex and expensive
3. and, by the way, all of these computers and I/O devices are in places that are hard to get to, so labor costs will eat you up before the part replacement costs...we just replace vs. trouble-shoot these components"

Lastly, I have been a Lexus bigot the last twenty years until defecting to MB (no Lexus V-8 F-Sport sedans anymore), and have always purchased factory ELW's and the worst I have done is break even.

So if something breaks....no big deal or anger issues with the brand.

Priceless comfort in buying a luxury car vs. a pick-up...

Cheers

Well, I guess the 5 dealers including the original selling dealer were all wrong then. None of them could sell me the MB ELW because the car had passed through a non MB dealer. Problem with the majority of these cars is that they get sent off to auction and once that happens the ability to extend the warranty is gone according to several dealers I spoke with. Not sure why, as my car had a clean carfax, was in flawless condition and low miles.

I got my 2014 E in April 2017 from Nissan dealer. I was able to get the ELW from tafel motors (info. found on this website) since the vehicle had warranty until June 2017 and was at 43k miles (less than 50k) at the time I got it.
