Indeed terrible............but I assume the screen behind (on?!?) the steering wheel is just for this pre production type.........in final version I must hope it will be on the place of the big empty box behind it?

The horses are now in the barn, 2019 E63s
Looks like a Genesis to me.
It's hard to believe a brand could morph all model lines with the same basic style ques and their best sellers will be the biggest losers. When I say best sellers I really mean their best quality lines, ergo S and E Class.

2020 S560 Sedan, 2019 SL450, 2019 E450 Luxury Trim Wagon, '24 BMW I7 on order...
My 2018 S560 is the best car I have ever owned and I’ve had 60 brand new ones over my lifetime, at least half of which were high line cars. I love the way the car rides with MBC. I love the Exclusive Nappa interior. I cannot imagine what they could do with the new model to make it any more appealing to me than the current car is. So, I’ve ordered a new 2020 S560. I don’t want a first year W223, with all this new tech and after seeing these photos & video, this 2020 may be my last new sedan for the foreseeable future.

Does it still have the crappy little plastic shifter on the steering wheel column or did they finally put a properly made one of aluminum and leather on the console where it belongs?

When Porsche did the 996 , there was 4 Separate design teams and made 4 versions of the car but picked 1, Crushed the rest ,maybe this was the rejected version and the real one is the surprise, funny thing is the one they picked is one of the most unwanted one of all Porsches(lucky me) due to headlights, so maybe smoke and mirrors for the car world, they are going to outdo themselves I think like the W222.

It just does not belong in a $200k+ ultra luxury sedan (I believe the Maybach will have the same dash, like the current gen.)

The flimsy and cheap little plastic column mounted shifter was most likely designed and moved to the steering column as yet another cost saving item and the emphasis of any manual shifting pushed toward the paddles, but you can't use paddles for the most commonly selected positions going to and from park, drive, or reverse, and I hardly ever used paddles in my S Coupes. The fact your SL has a proper (and better made I might add) selector on the console is due to the SL's more sporty nature. For those of us with, or that had S Coupes, we mostly all wished for a proper console mounted selector (space was never an issue). The one in my Audi Q7 as example was awesome in both function and quality, trumping the one even in my new BMW M850XI which is too plasticy looking and feeling. The S Class simply deserves something better made/of better quality. We'll see what happens with the new SL, but if the bean counters continue to have their way, it too will get something cheaper just like the sedans and coupes.

Very happy now that I ordered and took delivery of a 2020 S63 Coupe
I'm sure the tech will be amazing but interior and exterior of the new sedan are really disappointing.

Fwiw, the new touchscreen stuff is far less costly to produce vs all the little high quality buttons and switches, which are far more ergonomic and safer to use.
I also think the S vehicles shouldn't looks so much like larger versions of their lesser versions. So many times when driving my S coupe I would see what I thought was another off in the distance only to pull up behind and see is was a c class coupe. Back in the day S's looked like S's and E's (when they came out) looked like E's...

2018 S560 and 2019 E450 Wagon.
I still think one of the best looking S class on the outside was the W221 and the best looking on the inside is hands down the W222

When I first saw it on Instagram, I assumed it was a Hyundai and I almost overlooked it out of disinterest. I'm a 45 yo man who has loved the Mercedes S-Class since I was a kid. Loved some more than others, but found each one to be special and beautiful. That is until now. I'm not sure if it's a generational shift and I'm no longer the target demographic, but I just can't understand how this car made it to production.
At this point, I hope the mid-model refresh comes sooner than normal and that the W223 series has a shorter lifespan than its predecessors.

They killed it
Guys is it just me or is everyone here taking this restyle personally....its absolute dog*****...
It lost its class and it will mix in the rest of the crowd. The interior was so beautiful, and this
new one is like a half *** tesla. Exterior, rear end is absoulte BS. Why?
Front: ehhhh I guess that's the part that if there was anything, it could possibly grow on me eventually...
but the front end of a 2018 S63 is so so pretty and proportioned beautifully.
I'm legit pissed
Ok Im done venting
Hope everyone is safe and doing well
Pic for attention

IMO, the inventory of leftover S-Classes will sell off quickly once the new car is introduced.
