BRAKE DUST ANEW

I was about to replace the brake pads on my CPO '16 S550 coupe due to heavy brake dust. However, I was hesitant (too cheap is another word) because they were just replaced by MB last Oct when I purchased this CPO. Anyway I tried a brake dust repelent that I had heard about several times. It's Armor All "Outlast Brake Dust Repelent". This stuff is unbelievable. I follolwed the directions except I applied a second coat 24 hrs. after the first without driving the car. I've driven now about 500 miles and there is no visable dust. Give it a try.

I have tried it as well. Very effective. Unfortunately only lasts about 3 weeks. If wheels are washed with pH balanced car soap after application, loses a lot of its benefits. Guess you can reapply with every wash.

I am currently trialing TW Hybrid Solutions Ceramic Spray Sealant on my S560 wheels, which gives a better shine than Outlast. Makes wheel surface slick, making them easier to clean. Lasts at least 2 months so far after 2 coats.

I applied the same Ceramic Coating to me wheels which makes all dirt/brake dust rinse off with ease.

Not really. I order it at Walmart online and have it delivered. Orders over $35 ship free. Unbelievably, I get their shipments in 2 days or so. Amazon is the pits sometimes as I've had to cancel orders lately after not receiving them after 3 weeks and longer (non Prime). Anyway, many stores sell it including Advance, Autozone, etc.

BTW, my S550 is in my garage 99% of the time as I'm retired. That may add to the life of this stuff. Also, I rarely go out on the rain with this car.

I went to Walmart the other day, it's been years since I've been in one. It was cool, like... visiting a 3rd world country in the middle of a pandemic. It was packed with people, it was cruddy, it smelled, it was dirty, and it felt seedy. I got some food there though! I didn't expect to travel anywhere this year but after hitting Walmart for 60 minutes to buy small items and shop for a new TV (they didn't have what I wanted), I feel satisfied with my trip away from the "states". ;o)

Ordered a can of this from Amazon $8.39 - came in 2 days. Easy to apply. Seems to be working just fine.

Do not use this stuff (AA) on black or dark grey wheels as it can cause streaking

For whatever reason, this has become really hard to find. The auto parts store don't carry it and it's now $30/can on Walmart lol. My guess, they stopped producing it, wonder what happened?

They were probably sued by the secret car wash cartel for loss of business...

Lol, it definitely reduces the need to go to the car wash as frequently. I bought one can, used it once, and it lasted for a while. Once my sons got ahold of it, I haven't seen it again. Went to order some more and just got the sticker shock lol. Still better than new brake pads I guess.

I found the same problem when I went to buy some. But I finally found it, tried it and it does seems to help a lot.

Tried it 2 years ago. Does not last and leaves a film on the Rims. I have the Disc Italia pads on now for 6 months. Extremely happy with the low dust compared to the OEM.

Limited supply may have something to do with Covid. So many things seem to these day including a shortage of Grapenut Flakes. Who'd a thunk... Glad I stocked up.

I've tried the Armour All on my AMG wheels for years. It works. After several uses you can see the grit and build-up over a year of use that is hell to get off the wheels.

About 8 months ago I purchased this Adam's Ceramic Coating Spray. It's been solid. If the brake dust builds up, you can spray them down with a hose and they look factory clean. Not sure how long this will last, but the last 8 months have been fantastic.

How did you prepare the wheels before applying the Adams Graphene Ceramic Spray Coating?

I apologize for my delayed response.

I had a tire blowout in the highway from tires I just purchased from my local Mercedes dealership. My vehicle struck a few curbs and Mercedes replaced 3 out of 4 of my AMG wheels.

The only prep work I did to the new three rims was a alcohol wipe down prior to applying the spray coating.

The rim that made it through the tire blowout I did the following prep work. Note not everyone has to do this. You can literally apply the graphene coating. Just be sure that rims are clean and dry prior to applying. You will need a solid 3 to 4 hours for the coating to bond to the rims. I waited 24.
  1. If you wish to coat the outer and inner portions of the wheel, remove the wheel from the vehicle after lifting the vehicle and securing it with jack stands.
  2. Heavy brake dust: Thoroughly clean the wheels (I used Dawn Soap). Tire Cleaner, with the Short Wheel Brush, Trim & Lug Nut Brush, and Wheel Woolie for the inner barrel.
  3. Light brake dust or light dirt: Thoroughly clean the wheels using a shampoo without any protection additives. Short Wheel Brush, Trim & Lug Nut Brush, and Wheel Woolie for the inner barrel.
  4. Thoroughly rinse the brushes or scrub them on a Grit Guard in a wash bucket multiple times throughout the cleaning process as they become dirty. You do not want to continue scrubbing dirt into other parts of the wheels and possibly scratching them.
  5. Thoroughly rinse and dry the wheels with a Plush Drying Towel, Air Cannon, or Blaster Sidekick.
  6. (Optional) On clear coated, chrome, or gloss powder coated wheels, remove bonded contamination with a Clay Bar or Clay Mitt using Detail Spray as a lubricant.
    a. Wipe away clay residue with a clean microfiber towel and Surface Prep.
    b. Perform paint correction if needed. I did not because 3 of 4 of my rims are factory new.
    c. Remove previous protection with Compound and a Blue Foam Pad.
    d. Remove oxidation, swirl marks, light scratches and other imperfections using various stages of Compound and Polish with their respective pads, or Metal Polish for chrome wheels.
    e. Always do a test area first. Every wheel will need a different level of correction.
    f. The better you make the surface look in compounding and polishing, the better the graphene ceramic coating will look in the end. Coatings do not fill in or hide swirl marks and other imperfections.
    g. Wipe away Compound/Polish/Metal Polish residue with a clean microfiber towel.
  7. Use a clean microfiber towel with Surface Prep to ensure the wheel is 100% clean.

Thinking about getting the Porterfields on my 2018 560. How did they hold up? Any squeaking or pulsation? The Mercedes mechanic will only back oem and akenobo. Thanks

The only negative aspect I have noticed is at after about 25,000 miles, when I am backing up, it seems as though the rear brakes are squealing a bit on light application.
It doesn't happen always but it is worth it to me to have way less black brake dust.
