M176 to AMG M177 engine upgrade. Possible??
I have a 2019 S560 with broken engine. The current engine is an M176.980.
I'm thinking of putting the M177.980 engine in its place. Could do with a few pointers please.
1) Can I use the same engine ECU that I currently have? If so I assume it would need engine updated in VEDOC and ECU to be SCN coded for new AMG engine
2) They both use twin scoll turbos, so can I use my current exhaust?
3) Can I use my current cluster? If so does it need coding?
Any other things to look out for before embarking on this project?
thanks to all in advance for any reponses.

What happened to your engine? Its not covered by the warranty?

No warranty. I bought the car flood damaged, fixing these is my hobby.
Engine is seized, had water intrusion. Strangely enough, everything else on the car is perfect, all 64 computers working fine. I figure previous owner either drove it through a super deep puddle drawing watering through the air filters or nose first into a ditch filled with water.
Seems like not a drop of water went inside the vehicle cabin.

Ah gotcha...
Absolutely can happen with a hydrolock or something.

Hopefully oil pan, steering rack and engine mounts can be reused.
Exhaust manifolds might be different and almost assuredly resonator and mufflers.
You might need to find an M177 with its accessories such as alternator and ac compressor. If these items are different vs M176 the next question is are harnesses and freon hoses needed.
I wonder if the Maybach owner @Katie22 has an opinion on this.

Thanks for the info Chassis.
I'm told I need to use the ECU from the newer engine, after having it unlocked.
The new engine comes with all accessories, ac compressor, alternator, manifolds etc

Are you doing this for your own use? The reason I ask is while you think it would be an upgrade not sure another buyer would want to deal with it. It would be bad enough taking on a previously flooded car much less one that didn't have the design intent engine.

Thats a good point MBNUT, I know people can be funny about changes from original spec. Even though the 177 engine is more powerful etc, it may put some buyers off.
Will give this some thought, thanks again
