2015 S63 Sedan EXTENDED WARRANTY ?

Hey guys,

Just pick up a 2015 S63 Sedan with just over 20k miles, for $65,000, with $170k MSRP, not sure if it's a good deal or not. My questions is, since factory warranty is out, my local dealer quote me about $7500 for new 3 years similar to factory warranty, with an inspection approved by service department. Or, with $100 deducible every visit, 3 years at $5330.

Is this warranty quote reasonable? How problematic would a 2015 S63 give me for the following 3 years? Heard repair cost is way up there.....

Thanks All,
Wayne

2019 S63 4Matic+, 2018 E400 Cabrio, wardens car.
Warranties are a suckers bet unless you are hard on your cars. S63 is a pretty reliable car but things like brakes can really get expensive. Especially if you have the CCB package, which ELW does not cover. The only other unknown would be, how did the previous owner treat the car and did they do all of the scheduled maintenance. Have your dealer give you a copy of the VMI that will list everything done to the car. If VMI shows no service that would be a big red flag. Low mileage means nothing if they went out and tracked the car every month or so. I doubt the warranty they are quoting you is MB but rather an aftermarket. At the end of the day it is your call. If you are comfortable turning a wrench, these are pretty easy cars to work on, but if not, you are probably better off putting 5K in the bank and rolling the dice. Find a good indy and enjoy the car. I have had my 2015 S550 for almost 3 years now and I have spent a total of 400 on a bad strut that I replaced myself and it is questionable if a warranty would have covered this anyway. Other than that, these are big heavy cars that like to eat brakes and tires rapidly.

Sounds like a pretty good deal on the car. I'm at 1.5yrs with no warranty on my 2016 s63 sedan and have owned it for almost 2.5 yrs now (similar sticker price to yours). No major issues except for a stuck headrest, broken window switch and a tire I blew on a pothole in the winter. 5300 for 3 yrs with $100 deductible sounds like an excellent deal if its similar to original warranty. I'd skip the 7500 with no deductible. If you're going to insure, I'd plan for a big expensive ticket items (ie engine, tranny, lcd display) vs minor gremlins. Is there a max $ as to how much the warranty will cover?

Put whatever you'd spend on an ELW in a savings account or money market account and wait for something to break

It looks like it's call FWS (Fidelity Warranty Services Inc), very similar to OEM warranty, under their "Platinum" coverage, with a little few extra (like coverage for towing, hotel, etc), sold by Mercedes dealer directly. No limit on max coverage (@ skeelo)

Did some research, M157 engine with this tranny are pretty good on reliability side. Other than these two, like "superpop" said, I'll turn that wrench, after all, I've been turning that wrench on diesel semi trucks for the past 9 years (I own a small trucking company). Shouldn't be too different, lol.

Service history looks on time, brake pads are at 70% front and back, getting new Michelin Sport 4S at Costco next week.

One thing to figure out is a rattle at roof open/close operation area, anyone has any clue on this one? Car is equipped with the premium 3D sound system, no sunglasses holder there.....

Sounds like a tossup to me. If you drive your car hard, then maybe worth it, but if you're actually handy and do a lot of it yourself, it's probably a waste of $. The michelins 4s are really great. I really don't look fwd to putting my winter set of wheels on soon. :/. I assume the warranty covers with OEM parts, otherwise that would be a non starter for me.

Great price on the car. I don't know about the EW. This is my first AMG with CPO for three years and for the money I feel more comfortable. The three previous cars had no major issues and I would have lost money on EW.

I bought a Fidelity Platinum warranty when I bought in a private transaction my 15 S550 that was out of warranty, and have already used it. Search the forums as there are a couple of MB dealers mentioned that sell the warranties. You can buy from any dealer that sells Fidelity warranties, it doesn't have to be a MB dealer. Although I got a cheaper price at the local MB dealer that quoted by the dealers mentioned on the forum.

Problem is car is out of factory or Starmark warranty. If you buy a car still with either in effect you can extend at about a 1/3 of what u were quoted. On my 2015 3 years was under $2500 through M Benz. If you do search on here you will see several dealers who will sell warranty over phone at large discounts. Mine has paid for itself but as you see its a personal thing.

Look for the latest model u can buy the later S63's aren't as rough. Also realize a tuned S550 is close to 0-60 as the early cars.

At $7500 I would pass on warranty and I bought the above mentioned warranty, its just too much money.
