Anyone know how hard it is to update the seat massager pump software?

My seat Massagers in my 2018 S560 only work the first cycle and then refuse to work after that until the car is turned off and restarted. Obviously needs the Software update. I need a service A oil change soon, anyone know how hard this update is to do and how long it might take. Would it be possible to even do during a express oil change or is it something the dealer is gonna need the car for a day? I'd complained about it like 4 times at the dealer I use in Florida but of course they kept saying everything was fine, it's not. Up North now and the dealer up here seems more on top of things. Thats about the only issue with the car at this point I seemed to get all the other bugs worked out of the car after I got it last November as a used Executive car.

cant help you with the resolution, but felt inclined to reply about two things.. (1) amazing we live in a world where massagers in cars need software - wow and (2) it is very frustrating when you try to tell the service team about a problem and get nowhere… boils down to whether or not they care or know how to fix it… glad you found a dealer with more ability and concern… the price of the car and the price of service in my mind dictate that features should be working. I haven’t had an issue in my W221or 222 with the massagers.

good luck!

Thanks. Ya I’ve found service in Florida to be pretty bad. I guess I’ll just have to drop the car off at the local dealer in RI and whatever it is to get the seat massager working properly it is.

Stay on them, it is a warranty issue so they have to give you a loaner car anyways. I had issue with my seat and wheel not pulling back when I had it setup to do that and dealership was able to fix via some software reset. I doubt a software update is required but may need a reset.

Seems like software drives just about everything in these cars. I had a problem when the car was new of the ambient lights going out on the doors and dash and that was some kind of software glitch too.

No question these are driven by software but unlikely that an update is required to keep a feature that you had working to get back. More likely this is a reset of the system like my seat/wheel memory.

I don’t know much about software updates but sometimes, it just requires an error code to be cleared. To read and clear mercedes specific error codes, you need to cough up about 400+ dollars. The minimum device is Autel MaxiCom or Artidiag100. This also reads all the mercedes specific codes which your car throws and stays on even after the problem is resolved/temporary. I should have bought my MaxiCom MK808 years ago. Even if it’s not the STAR system, it will still read the manufacturer error codes and let you know what is malfunctioning.

I have a suspicion you might have a very mild leak in your system. My massage system would shut off early when I had a tiny pneumatic leak. It shut off completely (and I heard a hiss) when the leak got bigger.

Thing is I can keep the seat massager running all day long if I keep hitting in a different massage before it times out after around 15 minutes. Once it times out the only way to get it operable again is to turn the car off and restart the car and then it will run another 15 minutes or in my case I switch to a different massage after 14 minutes and I can keep it running for my whole trip, lol. If this were normal as the Florida dealer stated, Mercedes would be out of business. Some of these dealers sure do Mercedes a dis service. I suspect like you said if the code is cleared and the unit reset it will probably be fine.

As mentioned, should be covered by factory warranty after initial Xentry quick test may be as simple as clearing stored codes and resetting. If software update is required diagnostics will guide tech to do so.
