W222 S560 4matic 2018 and C140 CL 500 1998
Cool S560 4matic high frequencies too present at low speeds?

I am noticing that at low speeds, especially when I dont have music playing high frequencies from the outside seem too loud for an s-class interior. For example the tyre noise of a car driving by when I am waiting at a light. Or if I drive through a puddle at low speeds. Oddly at higher speeds it seems to get quieter. I wonder if this is intended somewhat and has to do with the burmester ANC because otherwise I'd think it would be loud at higher speeds as well. However at higher speeds the car is super quiet. And I drive the car at 100mph plus regularly on that Autobahn.
Currently planning to test drive another S560 to make sure there isn't something off with my car.

Any ideas? Does this sound familiar to anyone?

Same here with a '17 diesel with 18" non-runflats. Way, way more noisier than my previous "12 W221. And that one had 20". Sound comes through everywhere. The doorseals, doors itself, windows, enginesound, backdoors, tiresound. Strangely not at 100+ mph on the AB. Went to southern Germany this weekend and gave it the foot for 5hrs. Then its quite acceptable. But day to day busy traffic? Citytrips? Way too much noise. Didnt realise when testdriving it but really present after some months of ownership. Weird is though that if i put the soundvolume on max, there's NOTHING to hear outside the car. Nothing. Should be the other way around hé? If you mean active road noise compensation, i think its only on the W223 Maybach. Never heard of similar for the W222. The W222 has the 596 option and instead of the 840 option it doesnt have just tinted rear but extra insulated windows all around. Me personal am thinking of extra isolating the innerdoors when it goes for a audioupgrade, there are some fantastic products nowadays wich even outclass the factory stuff and specialized businesses who do every compartment you want. Costly yes, but maybe an option.

My car is very quiet at all speeds. So much so you have to pay attention to horns since they are so muted. If you are hearing sounds from doors, seals, back doors etc then I would check to see if the car had major damage.

Hm interesting, I mean, that is what I would expect from a S-Class @emilner . I doubt it has major damage, it's a certified pre owned from Mercedes but makes it seem like something is definitely wrong. I will organise a test drive with another S560 and compare. Will post results here.

For what it's worth, my S550 is nowhere near as quiet as I expected it to be. It has never been in an accident, I verified the paint on every panel. When parked it is very quiet. Loud music inside is not heard on the outside. But when driving, there is a good amount of road noise. I have new Michelin tires, they are not the culprit. All my seals have been conditioned with GummiPfledge many times. I suspect it is due to the 4matic components; I theorize that an RWD one would be very quiet. Just my guess.

Something is not right. There was a year or two where there was a TSB on window seals or adjustment to stop wind noise. But at 60mph you should clearly hear a very quiet whisper.

I believe the 2018's might have been one of the year the TSB applies to, and I'm going off of memory here, but I think at least one member was never able to get it quite right.

2020 S560 4Matic
When I first got mine, coming from an LS460L (extremely quiet car) I felt that it transmitted more noise to the cabin than my LS did and I was expecting. They replaced the drivers door seal which was malformed in the front and adjusted the door closure and that solved the issue, now the car is extremely quiet as it should be. The S has a little more wind noise in a crosswind than the LS460L did, but road noise is better muted in the S than the LS and I think thats why I hear a little more wind rush.

This one sounds very interesting actually, do you have any documentation I could present to my dealer by any chance?

I have the repair order, but I would just tell them what you're experiencing and have them check all of the seals in the doors and the window runs. I would also visually inspect all the seals yourself to make sure none of them are deformed in any way

Although attached bulletins were released by MBUSA and do not directly associate with your vehicle they may assist in discussion with Service Manager to check for sound system software update, and inspect door seals.
