2018 S560 RWD
2018 S560 Ride quality / choosing rim size

This November I purchased a 2018 S560 with 20k miles on it for 75k and am very pleased with the car for the price. everything from the interior comfort to speed.

One issue i am having is ride quality due to minor bumps and manhole covers where i live. also having a very slight wheel vibration nothing like a major shimmy indicating something is terribly wrong just minor inconvenience.

Been doing research via the forums here and cant really wrap my head around the best option to improve ride quality, I know from what i have seen is ditch the eagle f1 runflats and downside my rims from 20's

i have a staggered wheel setup and am trying to decide whether to go with OEM 19'' wheels and bridgestones quiettracks or go with after market 18'' rims with the same tires.

Just super confused on how all this works because I am 22 years old and I dont have much experience with cars besides oil changes and alignments and dealer service every couple months.

does my car have sports calibers preventing the downsize to 18'' because of the staggered setup or is that something i will have to ask the dealership when im there next.

in the mean time i have deflated my tire psi to 35 in front and 38 in back just 1psi lower than the recommended and this has seemed to make the ride much better as the merc dealership inflates my tires to 41 all around which is stiff as a wooden board when driving. PLEASE HELP THIS YOUNGSTER

please excuse the cockeyed emblem it was after i got done washing the car

go with 19" non run flats. I have the Firestone Indy 500 on mine in the staggered size. great ride, quiet, all the grip the car can handle....they are summer ONLY tires though.

You might get most of the ride you are looking for simply with non-run-craps.

19" and non-run-craps will be better still.

You will not find a "lot" of 18" wheels that will fit--and be very careful about fitment if you go this route.

First, check the tire pressures on the sticker inside your fuel filler door ... I think what you're describing is much higher than factory "normal load" spec.

Regarding tires, be aware most of the top-rated tires for ride and noise are not available in the sizes required in back with a staggered set-up. Bridgestone for example does not make a QuietTrack in size 275/35-20 for the rear. That leaves you with 18" wheels as the only way to get the highest-rated tires for ride and noise (there are of course other highly-rated tires that will fit ... look at TireRack's ratings tables to see the many options).

Good news is your car is not an "AMG Sport Line" car, and therefore will accept 18" wheels if you choose to go that route.

unfortunately whoever owned the car before me thought the sticker on the inside of filler door was tacky. A quick google said 36-39 front and 39 back for my model, like I said the benz dealership thought it was a good idea to fill all 4 up to 41psi and the ride was god awful, took it down to 32F 34B cold and this is a good temp fix for a more pleasant ride. the goodyear exhilarate non run flats seem like a good option for me coming up soon. figured i will at least try just switching to non run flats to see how much they improve the ride, before having to fork out 2.4 to 5k for a new set of rims.

For sure try a set of non-runflats before dumping your rims, Michelin PS4's in non-runflats come in that size and give your temps you probaby need the all seasons. I have the Michelin MOE's which are more forgiving on 19" and I don't have the burn to get rid of the so fast as others have. Do not go for 18" too small for these cars

Congratulations on the new car! It is very impressive for a 22-year old to afford that car. At that age I was driving a Nissan that my parents bought for me!

Going to a good set of 20" NRFTs will help, but going to 19" with NRFTs will be even better.

Thank you! worked hard selling candy in highschool to buy crypto back in 2016 (started with a box of airheads for 8$) and decided to cash some out before the next bear market and buy myself a birthday present!

also will I be able to unstagger my car? I have heard really good things about bridgestone quiettracks but they only seem to come in 245/45R19 and i cant get the 275/40R19's in the back.

Look at the TSW line of wheels. I have 19" Clypse 1,400.00, on my car for winter tires square setup Nokian R4 rubber. But I live in Maine where most people run a dedicated set of snows. Up here all weather tires really wont cut it unless you hardly drive. I go anywhere anytime and my tires allow me to do that.

I unstaggered my car and very happy with the results. Did a whole thread on it last spring.

It's costly and a bit involved but perfectly doable. It allowed me to run tires I really like (Pirelli Cinturato P7 AS+) and to rotate them so I'm not stuck with that awkward decision whether to replace all four at once when only the rears actually need it. I put on some nice chrome W221 19s just because I like the look of chromes on a dark-colored sedan. Now I enjoy a real luxury ride and keep the suspension setting in "Sport" mode nearly all the time.

Oh, and when I was 22 I bought my first car with air conditioning, a real treat! Nice Olds Cutlass with a "Rocket" V-8 and a sweet ride.

Depends on how YOU drive.
a) drive like grandmother on her way to church :: sure.
b) take the car to a road race track :: no.
c) stomp on the throttle on damp road to pass quickly :: maybe-maybe not depending on your driving skill.

Also note: while some of the above tires are the quietest, once you lose the run-craps the difference between a super quiet tire and a not-so-super quiet tire diminishes into insignificance.

I went from 20 to 19 to 18 and the ride sooo much better. What a differnce 1 inch means. Never again 20" for me. Some MB 18" are non-stagered. If they fit you can check https://configurator.mercedes-benz-a...22-0416/Wheels

Nice first car! Me rode a $300 car at that age..

No more MB:(
Change the rims to 19's (or 18's). Non run flats are also better for a smoother ride but depending on your location and where you drive those may or may not work for you.

The only reason to downgrade to 19's is if your roads are loaded with potholes and your apt to bending wheels. I hear people complain about this all the time in NYC. If your roads aren't too bad, keep those 20's and go with General G-Max AS05 tires, which are all seasons. They are a touring tire and received top ratings from Consumer Reports and have an absolutely fantastic smooth & quiet ride. They also handle great in the dry and rain. Treadwear on mine have been almost unnoticeable in the 4k+ miles I put on them. Super inexpensive with a great warranty too. My ride improved dramatically once I ditched the Good Year RF's and went with these tires.

Some guys here will tell you to go with over-priced Michelins, but IMO that is just throwing money away as these are every bit as good and significantly less expensive. The ride is also quieter. You can invest your savings on not buying new wheels and expensive Michelins and put it into crypto instead. Also, run at 34 PSI at al 4 corners for optimal ride.

I too would try new tires before I went and swapped wheels. The 19s will ride better, 18s better still but I bet like Dave said a good set of non runflats on the 20s will make you happy.

make sure your 20s arent bent

I stuck with the 20's.....Continental DWS all seasons....have ridden in S550's with 19's all seasons....a slight difference w/o. the run flats, but not worth the cost of the change IMHO.
Knowing whatr I know now.....wish I had gone for the MBC. That was the original demo I drove and thought the price was stupid and not worth it. I can be wrong. Also, MBC only comes with 18's I am told.

If you felt that you needed 4matic MBC isn't available.
