Ceramic Brake Pads

I've been searching for Ceramic brake pads in an effort to reduce brake dust. I normally buy my parts vis FCPEuro but they don't have any such pads. Other websites don't give me any options. The best I can see is only rear pads. My car is a 2018 S560.

I'm using EBC Redstuff on my car and really like them. I clean my wheels pretty regularly, so I can't speak to claims of less dust, but the responsiveness and linearity of the brake pedal is noticeably better than the pads that were on the car before. They were branded Brembo and very dusty. I don't know if they were OEM or aftermarket ...

I am using the Power Stop pads, but I don't have a ton of miles on them for a good report.
I have good experience with Akebono, but I am not sure they make this application.

S560
I have Hawk pads on my 2019 S560 and I can say the dust is down 80-90%. Before I had to wash my car because the car was clean but the rims were dirty- now it's the other, and correct, way around.

Thanks! I ordered these yesterday. Many websites didn't load any options for my year 2018.

Mercedes-Benz S350 Bluetec.
Do you know if these brakepads are for cars with 342mm, or 370mm front roters? I guess we all have 320mm in the rear?

My S350 diesel has "AMG Sport Paket" option, wich makes it 370mm front rotors. Maybe these are the same as the US S560 rotors.

EBC yellow stuff gave a more braking after stock with old rotors. but they always make this sound when braking and dust is just insane, when was shopping for them read some posts that they have lots of dust but though i won't care - wrong it's ugly.

Dude, EBC Yellow Stuff is a performance compound intended for track use, not a good choice for an S-class in normal driving. Their Red Stuff is excellent for an S-class in street driving, very responsive, quiet and less dust than OEM pads.

yeah, i admit it not ebc's fault, I called them and asked for the most perfoming pads tbey have for my model im on e class by the way i though i mentioned that in prior post that did not save for some reason.

i would switch for the red ones but there is another problem the rotors are bent and vibrate a lot when braking and i am looking for ceramic ones then i'll also get the red stuff. but ceramic rotors for e class are not easy to find im not even sure they exist after few hours of searches.

Is it pretty straight forward to swap out the pads yourself?

No different than on any other car. To change rear pads - you need to put the system in service mode. YouTube is your fiend.

So my Indy Mechanic quoted me:
  • Front pads, rotors & sensors $980 + tax
  • Rear brakes (depending model specific set) $680 - $780 + tax
  • Service B (oil/filter cabin filter) $485 + tax

I trust him wholeheartedly, but wondering if I really need new rotors as well? The "Check Brake Wear" service indicator has been on for about the last 50 miles driven if that makes a difference.

*ETA* car is 2015 and has roughly 55k miles.

There's a spec for rotor thickness and you measure with a micrometer or similar device. Typically, the minimum is 2 mm less than the new thickness, meaning you get 1 mm wear on each side. You can also guess at it by using your fingernail on the outer edge, if your nail is caught on a distinct 'lip' you're likely close to the minimum.

As a practical matter people will often replace rotors when they change pads just because they're already in there and if the rotors have some wear on them, you wouldn't want to go back for a second round of brake work a few months later.

Doing the pads is 15 minutes per side. It's stupid easy.

I just took it to the Indy Mechanic. Turns out the wheel-lock key was missing so I had to then take it the dealership to get a replacement (had to be matched).
Dealer offered me $37k for it (2015/58k miles). Considering just unloading it and waiting for any reasonable deals on a G-wagon in the future or if they have any reasonably favorable lease numbers on a W223 or a GT63

Dealer is lowballing you. I just traded mine in and got 45K for it and I had negotiated the price on the new car before hand.

Interesting. What year & miles was yours? Do you think the fact that you were buying another car played into the higher number to induce you to buy? I asked whether the offer was contingent on whether I buy another car or not and they said no, but we all know the shell game dealers can play.
