S560e thoughts and advise?

Hello,

Some of you might still remember me. I had S550 2015 in the past, which I traded in for a 2020 Lincoln Navigator.

Well, guess what? now am in the market looking for a W222 (I missed it from day 1, but will keep my Navigator). I looking at a 2019 and 2020 S560e now, and there are two that I am looking at which I might be buying site unseen from a Mercedes dealer. What do you all think of the S560e and what is the actual electric range in a normal day? Any reason why I should go for a regular S560? I like EVs and I like the idea of having electric range (I drive only 15 miles a day, on average).

i have the 2016 550e with 21 miles of range that actually just gives about 15 or so. With diligent charging at home and work I never have to drive on gas unless of course i am driving other places when there is no charge . 560e has a better battery range and will definitely serve you better in the miles you are driving

C'mon 560e owners, try to contribute more info about your 'e's. Any unusual mechanical problems, any recalls, battery driving mileage, monthly electric bills for battery charging, your home recharging setup re 110 or 240 volt, battery durability/replacement etc etc etc..
Thanks all

I do not believe we have ever had an S560e owner on this forum. They are just that rare.

For what it’s worth the W222 is considered a well-made car with no wide-scale issues or faults. I cannot comment on that hybrid powertrain.

If you commute with the car, the S560e makes sense, just make sure that the battery is in good condition before you buy it.
If you want a V8, cheaper price (at least originally), faster acceleration and 4matic*, well, the S560 would be a better choice, but probably quite a bit more expensive to run thanks to tgas prices.

* I seem to remember that the 560e existed only as RWD, but don't quote me on that.

2019 S560, 2015 Honda Civic Hybrid
I've been curious what changed with the facelift cars ... looking at the brochures, the hybrid car disappeared in 2018 and 2019, and then reappeared in 2020. The 2020 brochure has a curious reference to a "Compact underhood lithium-ion battery that charges at home or public charging station". The brochure doesn't mention the all-electric range of the 2020.

I'd be very surprised if they really found room for the hybrid battery under the hood vs. the trunk. Guess we'll have to wait for a S560e owner to really know what changed.

2019 S560e
Quick follow-up

Hello,
Just curious to know if you ended up getting that S560e. If yes, please share your experience with me. I just got one unseen and it's in transit from California. Thanks!

I actually ended up with S560 (V8). First it was really hard to find a well equipped S560e, most of them are not well optioned, and 2nd the electric range was just too low that I felt for most days I'd have the engine on towards the end of my home-work-home trip. If time goes back, I'd still do the same and get the S560. For W223, the electric range is decent and it makes sense to go that route, but first you need to make sure that you don't mind the 6-cylinder engine as it feels different than driving a V8 vehicle.

If you like EVs, you will like the S560e though it't not that powerful in EV mode, but SUPER smooth just like any EV. 15 miles a day, I think is pretty good for the S560e and you should be fine. If those are your boundary conditions, I think the S560e is a great car. Just make sure to get a low mileage one.

Range? They claim 25 miles of EV range in the US, and realistically the car end up making close to 16-18 miles with AC on as normal.

Why it was not going to work for me? My daily drive is 16 miles, and I hated the fact by the time I might arrive home I'd be exactly at 0% or less during winter. My BMW 530e had 18 miles of EV range and literally just a few blocks before I arrive home the engine would kick in (and I always felt guilty for driving the last 2 minutes with engine-on and cold that never ever warmed up, every day. If I get a PHEV, I'd rather get one that has a minimum of 30% more range that my daily drive (just so I can make it too during winter), and no drive right around 0% battery as am about to arrive home during summer.

2019 S560e
Thanks for the detailed explanation. I was looking for a 2019-20 S560 with a budget of around $60k. I came across two S560e in a CA auction offered by MB corpoate office. Both were very clean, had under 10k miles and apparently never been sold. MMR was less than S560 (I guess because these PHEVs are not pupolar here in US). I started to do some research. Found a guy in our FB W222 group in Finland that bought a 2019 S560e over a year ago. He said he has over 30k miles on it now and is pretty happy with it (BTW he said the price of this 2019 S560e in EU is around $100K US). That made me think serious about it and finally bought it last week for just over $60k.

Yes I like and had EVs since 2014. My everyday drive is a VW ID4 and I love it. My S560e is in transit and should be here in couple of day. Let's see how it turns out to be. Very excited!

I am 4 coming on 5 years with a S550e and really love the car. The S560e had a little more electric range, I bough the car to commute 85 miles roundtrip and for that it was great! I usually averaged around 42-45 MPG leaving my house with a full battery and charging up at work, so for me the car is/was great. Now my commute is 45 miles roundtrip and I usually get 48-50 MPG on that commute. It is not like these cars are slow, maybe half second slower 0-60 and no tuning options available from 3rd parties. Overall I love the car and plan to drive it another 5 years (I got warranty) and will then make switch to full EV.

I just purchased a 2019 S560e last month. So far I have not had any issues with it, but it only has 6k miles on it. Great options, The car says that its electric range is 21 but I have been able to get closer to 25 driving conservative and keeping it to 70 or lower. I traded in a 2015 e250 that I positively loved and adored, but it was time for something new.

You will love the car, this was my first MB and first S-Class (Dad owned 2 77 and 85). The 16' S550 only has 14-17 miles of electric but for me on my commute it works great as my office has chargers. I also often charge for $2-5 bucks in a few places that I know are good reliable chargers when running around town, but with no fast charger available that isn't my usual. I get my batterry from 10% to 100% in 2.5 hours which is what my company gives us for free, perfect!

Congrats! I got one similar to yours in January. I think you got that black one that was in a Ohio dealership for a while. Beautiful car!
MB Corporate office had a few 2019 S560e that sold end of last year in different auctions, all fully loaded and low mileage.

I read about the 580e and for sure it has a serious electric range now, but you have to deal with the iPad for middle screen and the stuck on driver pod look. I bought my MB because it didn't look like a Tesla!!
