Smile S550 Eng. Know where thing are...

May be helpful to some to know where parts are located.

1. Interesting, at around 33:26, Bottom of oil pan has a lower sump below the drain plug? That would possibly explain why vacuuming out oil from dip stick works, possibly way better than just the drain plug. I wonder if it is worth removing the small black sump pan to check for any big Debrees. Suggestions / education anyone?

2. Can you see the oil pickup if you remove the Black Pan on bottom of the Oil Pan?

That was really interesting. Great info. Another early one with bore score. Havent seen the later years with that issue though. This definetly removes any delusions of tearing into this motor. Very complicated, wouldn't be fun! Frequent oil changes and stay onto of maintenance and hope for the best. Thanks for posting.

Great catch

Kudos on the catch
I saw this a while back but I did not catch that sump on what looks like the dipstick tube area of the pan

I too am interested in comments about that sump and it's relationship to oil changes through the dipstick

So if you broke a head bolt like that is there a way to remove it given how tight they were?

In my experience when you snap the head off the tension usually releases as the head of the bolt is bottomed thus pull up on the threads. Sometimes the bolt thats left in the there actually rattles in there and comes out easily. Just drill and use an extraction bolt. If they break clean at the top, put a slice in it with a dremmel tool and use a flathead screwdriver. But if the threads are jammed or there in a fusion between iron and aluminum............it can be a nightmare scenario for a DIY guy. Use one size smaller drill bit can drill the bolt out and then retap...need to be lucky. The machine shop drills it out and retaps sometimes has to helicoil it.

Can anyone comment on getting to the Oil Pickup or being able to see it if the lower sump cover is removed and also by removing lower sump cover checking for Debree etc. Also, does this explain why draining oil from the Dipstick with a vacuum is actually better as it is pulling oil lower than the drain plug. OCD DIY need only reply
