Michelin pilot sport all season four on W222 2017

Hi everyone, I’m having a bit issue with my 2017 Mercedes S550 4 Matic I live in Michigan where requires all season tire or winter tires. I drive the car daily, so I decided to put Michelin pilot sport all season four since then I’ve been experiencing a lot of road noise inside the car. I opened fender liner, applied insulation but still, it’s the same thing.
can someone please help me! My car is equipped with 20 in amg wheels

I installed the Continental ExtremeContact DWS06 Plus, and they are the most quite tires I have ever seen. I can’t hear any road noise at all.

I posted a little while back about tire rack having Bridgestone turanza (MO-S mercedes silent) on clearance. A set of four for $650 shipped or so plus an additional $70 Bridgestone rebate. Go to tire rack and put in your model as s63, tires are slightly wider but 20inch fitment works for 550/560

tire is very quiet, has foam insert along the inside lining of the tire. Highly recommended.

I had the Michelin Pilot AS4s for almost 15k miles. The road noise drove me crazy from day 1.

I just recently switched to the Bridgestone RE980AS+, which are the best reviewed tire in our (20”) size on TireRack. They are much quieter, to the point that I don’t notice them.

I just bought a set of 4 Pirelli P-Zero UHP all season tires for less than $600 total. Vin gave me the heads up and the rebate information. These are tires made/constructed in 2019, which is why they are, or at least were, on closeout. They aren't top of the line, but I'm 100% pleased! I have a 2017 4-Matic, couldn't be happier with the new tires.

I just changed my tires to Continental Extreme Contact DWS06 + and they're are amazing! no more road noise. I've contacted Michelin customer care and they actually had multiple incidents with Pilot sport AS4 on a Mercedes S class.

All of this information is discouraging. I recently traded in my 2015 that I installed the Michelin Pilot Sport AS4 tires to replace the run flats and was pretty happy. I’m now ready to order the same tires for my 2019 but reading this thread makes me 2nd guess doing this. My rims are 19”, so I’m wondering if the issues others are having is due to 20” rims. Any input is appreciated…

I think the 20” wheels is a major factor. You will probably love them in 19”.

But as someone with 20” wheels and who has had the Michelin AS4s and Continental DWS05s, I have to say the RE980AS+ suite this car the best. Quiet and comfortable.

I've seen a few cases (call them a few cases or many) that complained about the Pirelli or Michelin tires, but I am yet to see a single person complaining about the Continental Extreme Contact DWS06 +.

I have done extensive research, and all three brands were recommended by some users, but all of them had a few bad experiences and reviews, except Continental Extreme Contact DWS06 +. Every single person who tried them is happy with them.

I got the Continental Extreme Contact DWS06 + just a few weeks ago. Now after 100+ miles on them, they got even softer than the first few days and they drive like a dream. I had the Perilli in my former S-class, and those Continental tires are much much better. Limited Michelle personal experience, but clearly there are bad experiences. Summary is: You can not go wrong Continental Extreme Contact DWS06 +, really the best option you can get and other options are not even close.

My only concern (the only reason I didn’t buy) the DWS06+ is that the DWS05 and DWS06 were widely known for getting very loud as they wore in. I am not sure if the DWS06+ is different so I will not judge. But it is not something you would know with 5k miles them. My DWS05 with 15k on them were roaring horribly.

I am running the Michelin PS4s on a 2014 s63 amg 20 inch. Really happy with the low noise and the grip on the road.
was curious about your Bridgestone Re980AS+ but Tire Rack site says not available my size.

Great post guys. As I've posted in the past, I replaced the Perellis that came with my Certified 15 S550 with General Gmax AS-05. 11k miles later my rears are at 4/32, fronts at 6/32. Talked to Continental and they are offering me 56% credit off the cost of a new set or that dollar amount towards any Continental tire. I have a set of DWS 06 plus on my Volvo XC60 20" and have no real complaints other than my first set were to 3/32 in 10000 mi. so Continental stepped up with warranty and gave me almost 80% credit on another set...can't beat that. My question to all you guys that run the DWS 06 is the S class requires XL rating on the front, the G max is but the DWS isn't. Honestly, does this really matter? What say you.

I live in Iowa and my daily driver is a 2016 S550 4MATIC with 142k miles on it (all miles driven by me since car was new) and I travel in the Upper Midwest during snow as well. I’ve always used the all season Grand Touring Michelin OEM Run Flats (19” AMG wheels on Sport Pkg). I go through a set of these tires every 30-35k miles and get them from Tire Rack. Very quiet on the road. They get to about 4/32 and start getting a bit noisy at that point and I replace them. Great year round traction, including in snow. With ice, you have to be a bit careful, as these are not true snow tires, but it’s possible to get through the icy pavement, unless of course it’s glare ice, in which case even snow tires may not help much.

I have these same tires and they were even quieter & more refined than my PS4S. Great grip, good in the rain too. I have Pirelli P-Zeros on my S90 and honestly, they're not worth the price increase.

There's a major difference between a review doen on a racetrack or other "prepared surface" and on streets. Michelin PS4's and the previous verison almost always blow away other tire brands on prepared surfaces. It's a completely different story on regular roads/streets. That's been consistent over the last decade.

I agree. The Cont. DWS06+ offers the best comfort and noise experience even better than the other high-$ options, yet also at a great or very competitive price. The noise level and comfort is just outstanding especially after the first few days pass.

One would never though that the S-class can get any better as it's already very comfortable, but tires appear to be as important as the vehicle. I am not getting those installed also on my X5 which now has new Bridgestone tires care from factory.

My 2016 S550 has been running the Michelin PS AS4 on 19 inch AMG wheels for the last 8 months, and 10,000 miles. There is a slight increase in road noise compared to the OEM RF tires that came with the car, and they do ride a notch firmer as well, but the exit ramp handling and road feel at higher speeds are significantly improved. I came to this car from an M5, so the ride and road noise are still excellent in my opinion. My wife an I have put 60,000 miles on a set of the Conti DWS05's on her Audi Q5, and they were great tires, but did get loud the last 10-15K miles.

A couple of weeks ago, I had a set of Michelin Pilot Sport All Season 4 tires installed on my car with the 19" wheel. My initial impression was that the steering and braking felt more responsive with the Michelin compared to the Bridgestones they replaced, but the ride wasn't as quiet or smooth as I would expect from a Michelin on an S-Class. The next morning, I leveled out the air pressure in all 4 tires to my preferred PSI which restored the comfort level. After a few heat cycles, there was no noise on most road surfaces.

Overall, I'm happy with the tires. The last time I ran a Michelin tire, was on my previous S-Class and it was the Michelin Pilot Sport 3. That tire was amazing, and while it didn't last long, it set the benchmark for how an S-Class should perform when matched with the proper tire. Currently, the Michelin Pilot Sport All Season 4 falls slightly short of the high expectations I had, but that's what I get for comparing an all season tire to a dedicated summer tire.

These tires are nail magnets as they are like glue when warm.

I had them on a previous S550 and thought they were fine. Put about 10k miles on them when I sold the car. All road miles and the road surface is the biggest factor with noise. Some roads roar and some are near silent.

My 2020 S560 came with Continental's Pro Contact CX SSR. Fantastic all season tires. When the previous set wore out I had the dealer put another set on it. I love Michelin Tires but these were so good, I decided to stick with another set and i'm glad I did.
