"Problems" with the 2014 that were fixed/resolved in the 2015, 2016...?

Any "problems" for the first year new/facelift 2014 - that were later fixed/resolved in the 2015, 2016...?

I know they upgraded/changed the touchpad in the 2015 - but am not aware of anything else...?

Anything mechanical, etc.?

So should anyone have any reservations purchasing the first year 2014 vs. a 2016...?

My S500 was registered later on in 2014 and is technically a 2015 model , it has the newer touchpad you mention.
i must admit I am thrilled with the car and will have owned it 5 years next month, it was a Mercedes used car and just one owner when I got it with 40k on the clock, it is now on 68k as it is not my main driver so it is kept as best !

The 2014 was not a "facelift" it was first year of the W222, not sure about issues that were resolved but my 2016 has been very reliable.

If I were to go with a 14-17, I'd go with the 17 because of the 9 speed transmission. Otherwise, the touchpad change in between the 14 and 15 model year is the only major change I'm aware of. With S-classes; the particulars of the build sheet mean as much as anyting else. My current car has just about everything except a heated windshield.

This post indicates that the M278 cylinder material were changed in 2015 (2016 model year I assume). Guessing it was done to address cylinder wall scoring?

I bought my S not knowing what I know today and how vastly different they are on build sheet, I got relatively lucky in that I got a lot of the features I wanted but lost out on 3-D sound system and rear seat exec package, but I did get AMG Package and a few others to get a 117k build.

The only other thing I can think of is that Mercedes changed the door stops. The 2014 still had the "infinite door stops," which had been first introduced on the W221, in 2007. Mercedes removed them at some point in 2015 or 2016. Later models went back to traditional door stops, with 3 stops (narrow, middle and wide open).
