Hello all,

I've ordered the ECU tune from MWMods (along with the AMG cluster) and if nothing goes wrong, I expect it to arrive next week. I will update this thread with my experiences, but for now I would like to provide some additional information I got when discussing with their team before I did the purchase, in case it helps you make a decision.

I should add here that I had already ordered the Lowering Module from them a couple of years ago and I am very happy with it; I use it before service and warranty visits to the dealership.
Here are the highlights:


Q: What's the difference between using RON 95 vs RON 98 fuel? [91 & 93 US octane respectively)

A: RON 98 would produce better performance, but it would probably not be noticeable in daily driving. It is not required to use RON 98 as it would be with other tunes and using RON 95 would not create any risks for the engine.



Q: How do I best protect the engine with the tune installed?

A: Maintenance is similar but it would be recommended to change oils at 1-3K Km (0,6 to 1.8K miles) sooner compared to stock.



Q: If the engine suffers a failure, how can I revert it and is it detectable?

A: The mod should be undetectable by logs or connecting Mercedes services [not sure if they meant Xentry servers or simply Mercedes Me here]. If there is a catastrophic engine failure and the ECU is sent to Daimler for deep analysis, the tune can be detected (like with all ECU tunes). However, the tune does not disable any engine protection systems [understandable risk from my side].

I had the stage 1 from MWMOD for my S63,. it feel very weird and the power seem gone down after flashing the tune.

Well anyone who claims 0.6k miles oil change makes any difference is full of ****.
Not that I have experience with their products but that is some made up bull**** of epic proportions.

I hope you will be satisfied with their products but I have not heard of 0.6 miles oil change thing either and it doesn't like a plausible thing at all .

Just to clarify, the guy is not saying to change your oil at 1-3K Km, rather that you'd change it sooner by that amount, e.g. Instead of 15K Km, you ought to do that at 12-14K Km.

I still don't know if this makes any difference, but I barely do 10K power year as is.

Peter, I'd love to use your services, but I'm not in the position to do so. My garage is on the second basement of our apartment building and there is no connection whatsoever to the outside. I just don't have the luxury to leave the car somewhere for a few hours unattended where I live.

I keep you in mind when I (eventually) move to my own house in a few years time with my very own garage.

It was sent today, I'll get it (via DHL) by Wednesday. I won't be able to get a feel for it until the 30th (there's a small trip to Munich involved then where the car can stretch its legs).

I may visit a Dyno in the summer during my vacations, but my expectations are realistic, I doubt the car will manage to even attempt reach the advertised increased HP & torque, but it will be interesting to see what the mod is actually capable then.

I got the device yesterday. The upgrade was installed within a couple of minutes; no problems there. I couldn't resist the temptation and I took the car for a ride in neighbouring Germany.

Here are my honest impressions:

1. Revving the engine just a wee bit, made it slightly louder. That means nothing on its own of course.
2. I only had the chance to do one 0-100 Km/h acceleration test but I messed up my measurement. I have noticed a slight improvement, but I am not really sure if it's actually there, not without A/B testing it.
3. I did notice an improvement from 100-200 Km/h, since I felt that I've reached 225 Km/h faster, compared to past attempts.
4. Fuel consumption seemed to be higher, even though the dash reported ~ 11 l / 100 Km. For the most part, I've been driving in E mode, since getting to Singen from Zurich is a very speed-limited road (80 Km/h for a very long stretch), only using S for the actual acceleration tests.
5. I am not sure if I feel the (supposed) extra torque.
6. I have RON 98 fuel in the tank.

I will try to perform some more tests on the 30th.

My impressions so far are mixed. I am not sure I have experienced any significant improvement in the 0-100. In their website they report dropping from 4.5 s to 3.8 which is an improvement of 15,5%, a number that is small enough to not be that easily discernible on theory. I doubt the mod gives you +101 HP and 0.7s in 0-100 however...
On the other hand, acceleration past 100 Km/h seemed to be there, definitely more noticeable than 0-100 but not something earth shattering really. I will know more on the 30th.
I've heard that proper mods will also reduce fuel consumption on E mode, but so far this has not been my experience. Again, this is probably user error, I need to measure it properly and in an isolated manner.

So, here's my recommendation based on my initial experiences: If you need a device to be able to program and restore the ECU within 2 minutes on your own, because you don't want the dealer to know, this will do the trick. If you don't care about that, you really can't tune a car properly without a Dynamometer, a professional that knows what they're doing, and probably better air filters too. I'll update this in the near future.
