W222 S550 AMG Brake Conversion

I have read over the years that people were curious if and how this could be done. Since I have owned my car outright for quite sometime, instead of buying a new one, I decided to upgrade the look of my 2014 S550 to a 2019 S63.. As a project a bought a bunch of S63 parts off a wrecked vehicle and upgraded it.

I just thought I would share for anyone as crazy as I that wanted to do it . if you want to upgrade the calipers to the 6 piston fronts and AMG rears you will need brake adapters for the front and to upgrade the back hub and wheel bearing to what is on the S63 and they will bolt right up. I will share some picrures shortly.

I am interested in this lol - I painted my calipers red during memorial day weekend and they came out great but from doing the S63 conversion and seeing my brake pads up close compared to my Cayennes huge pads it bothers me on the W222.

SO you just bought W222 S63 rotors front and rear and brake pads and and then adapters

any links you have post em I've read on here with other people who have done the conversion and it doesn't look hard but everyone would always post complex info when I just want a simple i bought this and that and done.

it’s not difficult. I haven’t found anyone that has actually done it on an S550. I searched for a while .

Here is what you need:

S63 AMG calipers
S63 Pads and Rotors
S63 Rear wheel hub- it’s different from
whats on there stock
The wheel bearing should be the same - still need to replace it
Front Brake Adapter from Tro-nik.com for W222

OP is the brake master cylinder the same between S550 and the AMG cars? More piston area for calipers usually means a bigger bore size for brake master cylinder.

They are the same. I have been driving it for months. Stops on a dime.

222-430-00-00 - part number for the master cylinder

hypothetically - Would I even need to replace the rear calipers and rotors? - the size difference doesn't look substantially any different between S550 Rear and S63 Rear atleast with initial looking

They are noticeably bigger- both the rotor and the caliper. But it’s really up to you

Dont know about the regular is but the 16 Maybach I had had a LOT of AMG parts on the car. One would find the AMG stamping on the parts often hidden from normal view. The brake calipers are one example. You take the wheel off and stamped on the side of the caliper was AMG. You MIGHT find you already have AMG parts on your car.

Katie you’re correct . Since the Maybach is a lot more than the regular W222 it also came with 6-piston calipers on the front and other AMG parts. Unfortunately, if it’s a standard S-class it does not.

Very interesting, I've seen Maybach calipers for sale on EBay and thought about doing the upgrade. One thing I did ponder, can the parking brake motors on the standard caliper be used on an AMG rotor?

To be honest, I don’t know. All you need to do is look up the parking brake motors for your car and then the Maybach and see if the parts are the same.

OP - when you did the rears did you have any trouble with the parking brake? I assume you went on the steering wheel controls to open the rear parking brake and then when you were done you did it again?

how many liters of DOT Brake fluid did you need 2?
