2017 S550 Drivers Seat Sensor Replacement

I have a 2017 S550 and I've suddenly started getting an error, picture attached, that says I have a "front left malfunction, service required". I took it to MB and they told me my driver's seat occupancy sensor has malfunctioned. They also told me that there is no way to replace the sensor itself and I would have to replace the entire seat, which is a $5,000 part. I can probably find it used, but I would rather just replace the sensor if that is possible. Is that possible or was the service rep correct and I need an entirely new seat cushion?

I am drinking but I am fairly sure there is no such thing as a driver occupancy sensor mostly because the driver is needed for the car to move around.

Also drinking and sincerely wishing this was the case but there is a weight sensor in both front seats for some reason. It's on the diagram of the driver's seat, but I agree it makes no sense. I hope you're enjoying your drink!

Well it is there 2228700010
But mercedes part availability has gone to **** since covid, it's a replaceable part but shows no longer available.
Recommend used seat bottom, any color or options, the seat is completely dismantlelable.

Or you can request them to place a back order and reach out to Germany, some parts were listed as no longer available but they are now back.

I can 100% get a junkyard seat for the low low price of $800 but I don't want to replace the whole seat and have the colors mismatch due to different wear patterns and sun exposure... Call me petty if you must. But this looks like I could get the junkyard seat and pull the sensor. You concur?

Yes the seats are designed to be serviceable, you can take the good part from the used seat.

This has genuinely likely saved me $4200. Cheers!

Never heard of that pert before. Any chance a wire could have become loose or frayed:?? From the part#, it lookd fairly universal, so a seat from a C-class would work just fine. Might be worth a trip to the local salvage yard or the auction site.

No, that is a 222 part.
It is same left and right seat and it might hace been used by other models AFTER the 222 was developed so do check but it is not a generic part.
