Apple CarPlay installation with first class rear seats
I bought my 2015 S500 last week it’s truly an incredible car, but I wanted to add Apple CarPlay because it feels like the only touch of modernity it’s missing.
I bought an Apple CarPlay module which I received but when I tried to install it, since I have the First Class rear seats option, I wasn’t able to access the last two screws located at the back of the center console.
Am I required to remove the section with the heated/cooled cup holders and the part with the rear tablets?
From all the installation videos I found on YouTube, none of them have the same configuration as mine.
Let me know if a photo of how it looks without the rear air vents would help.
Thanks in advance for your help!
The First Class rear seats change everything. To access those rear screws, you must remove the rear center console section. This includes the part with the cup holders and the tablet controls.
It's a more complex job than in a standard car. Be very careful with the clips and connectors for the rear seat electronics. A photo would help us see exactly what you're facing.
A tip on the install as my car had 4-zone climate control like I imagine yours does: All the videos I saw show vehicles without the 4-zone climate control and this made it easier for them to place module under center armrest. You won’t be able to do this as there is a fan and ac lines right there taking up a lot of space. Instead, place the module right under the glovebox as they do towards end of this video. Super easy to do so once you are able to route cables there which wasn’t too difficult.
And yeah i'm affraid i'll have to take everything off
Thanks @Johnny for the tip about where to place the module!
Here’s the link to the video in case someone else needs it.
I haven’t had time to work on it yet, but I’ll keep you updated!

No, it's for the front. Actually, I’ve never thought about putting CarPlay on the rear screens. I don’t even know if it's possible.
Yeah, you have to lift the front console to plug the module, but you can't lift it without disassembling half of the interior apparently.
@S_W222 Yeah agreed, I love it so much !

if I was you I would get a pair of screen with attachments to the headrest neck with wireless CarPlay built in where you can control left or right or both at the same time plus you can mirror everything on your phone to the rear screens also all you need to do is remove the back of the seat cover and all the wires goes into the back seat covers and instead of turning it on manually you can wired it to automatically turn on the screen when you start the car. !
Did it to my car and it was a few hours labor at the shop $
no need for a dongle or removement of the rear center panel.!!
less labor
and sell the original parts!!
good luck
