Spent lots of time in the new Audi Q8 which is mostly all t/s. in addition to a myriad of smudges no matter how much your hands are cleaned, there are glare issues, and making certain changes that normally are done with the flick of a switch/push of an easy to locate button, now requires hunting in a menu which is time consuming, distracting and dangerous as your eyes need to come off the road for far too long. The Audi system does employ nice haptic feedback and the design integration is far nicer than the giant rectangles MB has used thus far, but the best solution is a combination of both t/s, traditional buttons/switches with a nicely integrated design rather than screens that look like an afterthought. Hopefully MB will utilize the best of both worlds and not go more than 50% t/s.

Ah, that would be MISTER Super Moderator to you. Wolfman does not “refer to himself” as a Super Moderator, it is a title bestowed upon him by the operators of this site and there are only a handful of them. Look into it.

We started using the touch screen a bit more often than wanted because the new trackpad is so annoying compared to old wheel. Haptic feedback and tracking accuracy is not great and ultimately distracts from driving.
HUD could be the game changer here with the amount of real-time content displayed...

I have no interest ever talking to a car but find some commands reasonably efficient in MBUX which the S-Class will have the latest version of. Voice is easier than touch navigation but worse than dedicated buttons. Favorites/Profiles are faster via voice and perhaps some climate adjustments. Also because the car knows who is talking. So if the passenger says it's too warm, it dials down the passenger climate only.

They are fine on your ipad or iphone while you sit on a chair and not moving forward at 60 miles per hour.
They are not as simple and precise as analog switches, take too much time (and your attention from the road) and look horrible with smudges all over, with poor visibility of icons in sunshine.

Not a fan of the new trackpad. Luckily it has a touch screen as a backup option. I would prefer the wheel and a touch screen. I don't like taking to cars and prefer dedicated buttons or a good usuable mouse device (like the current wheel) or a good touch screen. The touch pad is too inaccurate and too distracting as others have mentioned.

Pleasantly surprised the V12 will have AWD, finally the "God's shove in the back", meaning the huge torque that engine is famous for.
Unpleasantly surprised that wonderful powertrain will be confined only to Maybach and the S65 (that sorely needed AWD) will not be made anymore.
I still had a bit of hope they would change their mind and offer that model in some limited capacity.
Maybach will improve with it tremendously but it is not for me, too big and too soft for a daily driver, S65 is the maximum size I can live with.

I was thinking about that the other day while driving my wife's Range Rover SVR.
The touch screens all over the dashboard and console looked horrible in the sun glare, covered with fine dust that is impossible to keep away for more then an hour.
The most important accessory is a electrostatic rag you need to constantly clean the screens.

Personally, I'm not a huge fan of touch screen UI.
Primarily, I don't like having to look at the screen in order to press the right spot.
having said that, my x167 has touch screen for MBUX and I find the glare and fingerprint issue not as bad. my w222 has the same size display without touchscreen and I find myself wiping that screen with microfiber towel just as often to keep it clean anyway. I'm sure soon enough, we'll adapt to the gigantic screen and learn to love it.
my only concern is how MBUX will use the screen efficiently.
It would be pretty sad to have all that screen space and goof up the interface.
an example of that would be, my w222 would do the full screen CarPlay but my newer x167 has the same size screen but its MBUX would do a narrow CarPlay. WTF???
Hopefully MB will reveal decent amount of info on Wednesday. fingers crossed....

Looks as if I will be taking all my retirement portfolio out of widgets and putting it into microfiber towels. 😊
