I have contacted MBUSA numerous times regarding options and such. IMHO, they have ZERO interest in hearing from consumers. The gurus who decide how the cars will be marketed in the US feel that they KNOW what is best for us and that’s that. In addition, we here on this forum and other, similar sites, represent a tiny fraction of the MB customer base. For the most part, MB & most other new car buyers are like sheep. They go to the dealer, pick a car, buy it and go home. Most of them have no idea about options beyond colors, wheels and maybe the AMG Line packages.

This is true. All decisions are based on past data and financials. That blue might the greatest color to most of us but if it's not relatively profitable they won't offer it. It's business, nothing personal

So on the positive side, the German configurator allowed all luxury extras with the AMG line as well. The bad news is that they don't even offer the 580 right now, only up to the 500 plus they have the same limited selection of colors inside/out. I hope that this gets resolved asap but isn't a huge issue given that the car won't be available until May (or so) of next year.
Here are a couple of pics in Onyx Black (day and night time). Reminds me somewhat of our Designo Mocha Black color which I liked

The center console are only available in Glass black (which I assume is metal given our AMG) when it comes to the wood interiors. In mesh metal trim, it will all be the same...

I'm so happy they got rid of that analogue clock in the 222.

Well, let’s see now: That’s one FOR the removal of the analog clock and about 10,842 AGAINST the removal of the analog clock.

lol. I knew the old timers would hate this change but it doesn't look right in any modern car. Faux pretension, hard to read at a glance, and a dash space hog.

I'm thinking for my preferred spec of doing S580e Plug-In with the AMG-Line exterior (don't like the luxury intake designs or steering wheel), either Emerald Green, Designo White, or Rubellite Red, paired with the Exclusive Macchiato/Magma Gray Nappa Leather and Aluminum Walnut Wood. Gonna have to see in person whether the 3D Tech Package is worth it.

Anyone see these wheels in the DOG? These were shown off in the commercial at the end of the reveal but none of the wheels in the DOG seem to have the same look.
I believe those are the R73 or R51 wheels.

My favorite page from the German MB “Konfigurator” site:

It shows that the Panorama Roof is OPTIONAL on all W223 models. The Germans get to choose if they want this roof, Americans get it shoved down their throats, whether they want it or not. How luxurious.............NOT! I’ll post my own dead horse, thank you very much.

I have to say that I’m really turned off by the big expanse of BLACK on the center console. It may be Piano Black wood, it may be gloss black plastic, it may be some other material. Whatever it is, it is going to pick up every fingerprint, every smudge and will probably really show scratches. I would have thought MB would have learned their lesson on this with the 2017 to 2019 E Class cars & wagons. Those cars have a big, glossy, SLAB of black material on the console, which almost nobody seems to like. In 2020, they finally changed it and made it match the other wood trim. Now, here we go again in the W223. Why that panel can’t be of the same material as the rest of the trim in the car is a mystery to me. I know it “flows” into the touch screen, but it looks cheap to me. IMO, it should match the rest of the trim or, perhaps, be trimmed in a contrasting color of leather.

Very pretty color. Almost like the old classic brown on the 280SE's

Hold on.......THAT is the S class? Why does it not look S class-ish? Can someone show this angle of the W222 and W221? Yes, I have seen the pictures......but this pic for some reason looks incredibly minimal!

Thanks for the info. I was able to find them on the German configurator, like I suspected though they are only available with the luxury design.

Played around with the configurator a bit. Beautiful forged wheels are only available with the Luxury-Line annoyingly, I just can't do the front end of that trim. Beautiful 21' AMG Wheels aren't compatible with RWS, but the 20's which look only OK are. Lunar Blue would have been awesome as well. Interior I think Macchiato Beige is best, just makes it more light and airy, especially with the colored headliner, and works well with the Designo matte wood with metal striping. Still not a fan of all the gloss black though.

Favorite colors right now are Designo White and Emerald Green.

It IS minimal. I guess it gets more exciting when the pachinko machine, I mean the touch screen is turned on.

As much as I just love what we THOUGHT was that “saddle” leather color—but which seems to actually look much more like the “Sienna Brown” it is named, I believe that I would also go with the Macchiato Beige as well. Now, if they would only compliment this beautiful, very light colored interior with a darker, but COMPLIMENTARY carpet color, as Bentley allows for in this photo, I would be a happy camper. I don’t know who at MB decides to do these INSANELY light color carpets, but they are just ridiculous and look great the day you take delivery, then go down hill quickly after that. With MB, the carpets are either way too light or black. No middle of the road. Why is that?

As you would expect, the R6 is no slouch, but come on, it belongs in the E-Class, dammit.
So WTF...?
Where's the V8...?

Agree.
I really do not like glass sunroofs and panorama roofs in particular, this is one feature in my daily driver I would rather live without.

I think it's the greatest feature which makes the car so much more open and comfy. Everyone comments on the roof when they get in the car too.

To be honest, this feels old now when we have seen 223 interior, in general..

Yes, and for those who want it, it should be available as an option. I would HAPPILY pay $5,000.00 extra to be able to get the car without it.

Old, traditional call it what you will. I happen to think this interior is absolutely stunning, gorgeous and just oozes luxury. AND, this isn’t even their top line Mulliner interior. Too bad I don’t really care for the rest of the car, or the way it drives.

Agreed, everything should be an option. But we all understand that packaged options are just a money grab from North Americans' customers. We have very deep pockets, apparently. Europeans have to pay more, for their own cars, than us, which is sad and funny at the same time.

Agreed. This interior bores me (and I love light interiors). Bentley does have much more interesting interior options but this one is too simple/old school.

Not really. One can get better deals in Germany on these cars, especially as a business customer (no VAT). Interest is near zero and one can get great discounts on any brand. Leasing the S-Class will be cheaper in Germany...
