Likes, dislikes & hopes on W223........

The things that are very compelling about the new W223 to me, are as follows:

1. Supposed to have a more hushed cabin.
2. Supposed to have better ride quality. Hopefully the new EABC works even better that latest version of MBC.
3. Four wheel steering.
4. Larger trunk.
5. Outstanding interior materials and more “color” when a non-black interior is ordered.

I could do without:

1. Massive touchscreen.
2. Lack of buttons, knobs, switches even if they were redundant.
3. Disintegrated dash design.
4. Tail light design.
5. Extended grille, resulting in a bit of a “snout” look.

Really hoping for:

1. A spare wheel/tire, at least as a factory option.
2. Panorama Roof being optional.
3. 18” wheel option that looks great.

My guess is the base wheels will be 19s, since the top wheel is now 21 or 22. Should still have lots of sidewall though.

The base wheel is 18". But it maybe possible that it's only available for the lower-end S350d aka not in the US

The excessive amount of black gloss trim truly cheapens this interior. It makes me wonder if MY 22 will feature a wood option similar to when they dumped the black gloss in the e class center console after 1 year? I suppose we will need to see how it looks in person...

I dislike the diamond seat design it is dated and they should have come up with a more exclusive design.

I think its a sharp car although wish iy was more S class distinctive but get they sell more lower end models now.

So what will the mark up be in SOCAL ???$50K??

You might be right about the 19’s being the base wheels. If so, I’ll try them ( IF I get the car) but if I am not thrilled with the ride, I’ll put 18’s on, as long as they clear the rotors. Ride quality is extremely important to me, way more important than a sexy look. To me, 20’s look nice, but give up too much ride comfort, especially on city streets. My opinion would be that anything over 20’s would be absolutely ridiculous on an S Class.

Well, I believe that the diamond stitch has now become sort of a standard look, synonymous with high end, MB luxury. I don’t see it going away anytime soon and I must say that I think it looks great in the new S. As far as markups go, I’ve never paid one and never will. If my dealer tries that with me, they will be losing a very good, long time customer. I’m sure some guys will pay big markups over at Fletcher Jones, just so they can be the “first kid on the block” to have one. Not me.

Well, it is not plastic, but piano black finished wood, in a high gloss. We have it in our 2019 wagon. It’s not my favorite, but it does not make me think “plastic” when looking at it.

I believe I will order a W223, but it will probably be a second year car. I’ve got some lease timing issues and I’m waiting to see the Dealer Ordering Guide and to hear about the timing of US deliveries.

What makes you think the center console is plastic? Doubtful IMO compared to the remaining interior quality. Same as the other elements. We know the the piano black is all wood. My assumption is that it might be metal (similar to the AMG GT center console). I will judge it once we know more or I can see/feel this in the flesh.
We have seen that the Carbon fibre trim also has the center console in carbon fibre.

The car will sell at a discount like every other Mercedes. Some pay markups to be the first to have one but those are usually AMG models.

Love the diamond stitching myself but would wish MB would offer some alternate patterns like Bentley or even our M8...

We are adding a second car lift so we could have some more space As much as I like the car, I am hoping for the EQS to fill the sedan slot. Really would like a have a nice EV. But I do like the 580e as an alternative. No AMG needed as we already have fast cars. Also looking forward the next SL...

Couple of things I would like...

Digital light headlights are fantastic and game changers from a safety perspective. Rest assured, they will not be available or disabled due to ancient outdated DOT regulations. If disabled, at least they should be software updatable.
Wireless CarPlay. I assume the car has it but may have overlooked any info on it.
Proximity door locking/unlocking. I have seen the door handles pop out but in the demos this was due to a button press rather than just walking towards or away from the car

The back of the car looks like a 15 yr old honda accord and that "tuxedo" black line trim is very tacky. Hard to complain about too much else. Very nice, understated car.

Quilted seating is a timeless design that will never get old. Doesn't get more opulent. It would be nice to see more choices though.
