No rear vanity mirrors?

I'm surprised no one touched on this yet but I don't see rear vanity mirrors anymore.

Seems to be replaced with vents or do those 'slits' where they used to be somehow slide down as mirrors

I (sadly) noticed that too! Those slits I believe are rear overhead personal lighting.

I don't think so. I'd be shocked if MB went on the cheap and deleted this feature.

I wish these car vloggers had a greater attention to detail. They always spend lots of time giving an overview and never zoom in on the various parts of the car to talk about the details.

Ummm, the “no go” is referring to the mirrors, NOT the car (as if someone wouldn’t get a car just because of no vanity mirrors )

No manufacturer does things without a reason - that much we can agree on.
So, the only question is... why?

My mom uses it a lot but I do see her and others just using her phone camera instead nowadays, maybe that's why they removed it

Good point. Also, I think the roof layout with panoramic there’s not much space left:

Whenever we ever sat in the back we never used them once. As for ties, I literally can't remember the last time I wore a tie for business
Does your wife actually sit in the back while you drive?

Again, nice feature and had them in our cars since the W140 I think. But we never saw a personal use. That may be very different with larger families etc.

Not while I’m driving, but sits in the back when she’s chauffeured.

Just another detail that made the S special....gone. As for whether it was often used or not, irrelevant. There are many features never utilized in a premium product.

Is it possible that there is now a digital vanity mirror that uses the rear-seat MBUX screens + the interior camera system?

I thought of that, but I don’t see a camera in the two rear passenger screens. The only interior cameras I’m aware of is on the 3D Driver Display and for MBUX Interior Assist. Hope I’m wrong.

Actually there is! If you get the 3D package, the Burmester roof speaker has a cutout in it with two cameras that track the gestures and faces of the people in the rear. I don't have a picture handy, but if you look at different pictures of the roof interior you can find the cutout version of the Burmester roof speaker.

Hi, I don’t think the cameras you are referring are part of the Burmester 4D sound system, nor are they a part of the 3D Package (for the Driver Display) but instead, might be part of the “MBUX Interior Assist.” Even though I don’t see such camera in the roof speaker.
Interestingly, and a bit off topic, the MBUX Interior Assist (code 77B) only works/comes as option with dark (black) upholstery. Guess it’s still not technically advanced to understand gestures against a light upholstery background (I couldn’t order it with the exclusive sienna brown leather). A bit disappointed...

I actually wasn't saying they are part of the Burmester 4D surround system. There is a triangular cutout in the Burmester roof speaker that contains the cameras. I'll find the picture and post it.

In the mean time, I agree I can't figure out how to actually order the MBUX Interior Assist feature. In my order configuration PDF it is not called out explicitly. I just emailed my sales guy so hopefully he will get back to me soon...

I actually thought this feature was included in the 3D tech package, but based on the Daimler website it seems like it is optional:

https://media.daimler.com/marsMediaS...l?oid=41844724

I think one thing Mercedes generally doesn't do a good job of is - clearly listing all of the options and what is required to configure them. Even the S580 Executive Line configuration in the U.S. which is supposed to be "all the options" does not include all the options.

Btw I called Mercedes and after looking at the dealer guide, they said MBUX Interior Assist is a standard feature FWIW
