I am not aware that you need a SIM card for any Mercedes connection to the internet. You need to go to the proper settings and pair your device and enable internet. The car has a built in “phone” to make a 4G connection, you cannot use the built in phone to make calls, only to connect to the internet. It is an easy process and if you do not know how to do it, your dealer can show you in minutes.

In any mercedes there is a sim card slot in glove box to use as sim card for phone calls on internet provider. I searched and there is just a device with an empty BIG CARD slot, not sim card slot

In US cars, the SIM card is in the built in phone that is used only for connection to the internet in the MBUX system. In my 2020 GLE the service provider is AT&T, but I don’t know where to access to the integrated phone and its SIM card. The car’s integrated phone cannot be used to place or receive calls. On US Mercedes cars, it is easy to connect your iPhone or iPad to the internet using the MBUX hotspot system. However, I have found that if there is no AT&T cellular tower nearby, my internet connection can be very slow. Since you have received a new 2021 S500, you must be outside of the US (where we are still awaiting a release date for our 2021 S Class cars). Mercedes may require a SIM card provided by the owner on cars not going to the US.

European (ROW) cars too have an integrated LTE modem with an e-SIM (no physical SIM card). Not sure if they brought back the option to use the personal phone for internet connectivity (earlier on with no internal modem it was the only option). Internet browsing is just one specific service that needs (paid) activation from Mercedes Me. The user manual explains it all.

There is no SIM car device with the new S class as it has built in SIM installed by the Manufacture as per ME region I think they installed from operator Vodaphone , this only to connect the car with the manufacture for some update and other functions that can be control through mobile me app, also for SOS call in case for emergency.

You can go to setting and connect to internet from your mobile by hotspot/bluetooth or wifi , as well by the USB c cable.

It’s in the glovebox

I live in Europe, so my w223 has a sim slot. It’s in on the right side in the glovebox.
So I have the option to use the internal e-sim, which is used only by mercedes me or I have the possibility to use my physical sim card bought from the local mobile operator just for internet or for calls and internet. The sim card in the glovebox could be used as a wi fi hotspot, so everybody in the car are connected to the internet

Most of us have to rely on the quite vague on-line manual when getting familiar with the W223. According to the manual the SIM card slot in the glovebox is for the car telephone accessory (option). The car telephone can be used with a physical SIM or with bluetooth SAP, using the SIM card of a personal phone remotely. Quite likely that the in-car telephone can provide internet access too. I'd assume there is an option to use the integrated modem too like on other recent Mercedes models, that is as part of the Mercedes Me service?

In my case, I use the bluetooth SAP connected with my personal phone. It is only for phone calls and playing media. The sim card in the glovebox is just with data plan. All my devices - phones, ipads, etc., are connected through wi-fi to the car’s hot spot. And the internet to the hot spot is coming from the sim in the glovebox

You must have the 380 option in your new car? Even the workshop information system has a very vague description of this feature.

Are you sure you are connecting your phone with bluetooth SAP? Sounds more like bluetooth HFP. Usually a BT SAP capable telephone interface either uses remote SIM for both data and calls or the local physical SIM for both data and calls.
