How capable is the autosteering on the new s class? From the marketing material it looks like all of the ADAS features got a big uplift in this car, and are now standard.
Is it similar to supercruise/Autopilot? Or is it questionable in its usability/accuracy, akin to Porsche's mediocre Omnidrive?
(Some auto manufacturers seem to be much better here then others.)

It’s not too bad. Of course, it’s only for a few seconds until system warns you to hold steering wheel again.
The only issue I have is with the active lane keeping assist. Yes, it keeps vehicle in between the lane markings, BUT, the car sometimes tends to “sway” (for lack of better word) within the lane as I’m driving. Car doesn’t cross the lane markings but is a bit annoying,,I think I might look like a drunk driver to others LoL.
There is a setting to increase or decrease but even with the least amount (early) it still “sways.”

As a follow up, the settings for steering intervention to keep from leaving lane unintentionally are “early, medium, or late.” From my experience the car sways in all three settings. Not sure if it’s design limitation (read flaw) or a calibration issue.

I never turn on the feature anymore because it makes me cringe as it seems to want to cross the line with a car next to me. Drives like I've had two shots of Fireball and a margarita.

Lane keeping on “autopilot’ was one of the big features why I bought my 2020 Tesla S. Two days ago I picked up my 2021 S580 and drove it over 100 miles home. I can attest to the fact that this car is every bit as good as the supposed leader, Tesla, in keeping the car in the lane. And, even though you get the same reminder to put your hands on the wheel, if off, it’s not like Tesla where they require a slight turn of the wheel every 15 - 30 seconds before they give a warning. (‘called the Tesla Twist by a buddy of mine) I do wish, however, that MBZ would adopt using the camera facing the driver to determine if the driver is paying attention, like Cadillac, instead of gripping the wheel.
and MBZ vs Tesla….in almost every other way, NO CONTEST. Love my S580

sjdille, can I ask, does your S580 “sway” but stay within the lane when steering/lane keeping assist is engaged (as I’ve previously mentioned)?
