Pretty much as expected for first batch. Super low residuals. So low 2000's for nicely optioned no cash down 580.

Lease numbers sound pretty bad. Plus probably selling for sticker. I might have to pass.

I just was notified that my 2022 S580 has been built and is sitting in Germany. I was told the 2022 release date would be "late this year." I hope that doesn't mean 2023

HA! You were told late 2021, just like we've been told several different stories about the 2021 S Class release date? I believe Mercedes new campaign concerning release dates should be "Please don't hold your breath, when it happens, it happens"! When you inquire they say SOON? Hell, I spoke with customer service yesterday and when asked about the release date from the VPC for the S Class in the U.S. of A. the guy I was speaking with was dumbfounded Didn't have a clue what I was talking about that thousands of S Class cars were being held and not shipped to dealers?

Well, actually I was told the release date was "toward the end of the year." They didn't specify what year. I might have incorrectly assumed 2021. This is only my 3rd Mercedes, so don't have a long history with Mercedes like many of the members do. I can't imagine why they let this get so far out of hand. Either the VP of Communications and the VP of Customer Service took the year off, or there is something going on that Mercedes does not want their customers to know about, or they just don't care about this customer base in the US. If a restaurant handled their customer service like Mercedes has this year, the restaurant would be out of business. I've gotten to the point where I just don't care any longer. My current S Class only has 24,000 miles on it, so I can wait it out. I will probably change my tune if I don't get my new car by the end of the year. At that point I will buy another brand.

I really don't know where the end of the year thing came from. MBUSA was pretty clear to us that the car would launch in spring at the earliest. Obviously there have been delays since the original March/April timeframe. Anyone who told you end of the year last year didn't know what they were talking about.

Yea, never heard the end of year either. I believe the first was "first half of 2021" then it became "Summer of 2021", our two dealers here in Nashville claim 1st week of July and I believe you, Mercedes Max said 07/15, both of those date are 1 to 2 weeks off! As mentioned in my previous post I could not believe that person in Customer Service was not aware of the backlog at the VPC's, maybe it was his first day on the job?

This information is for my 2022 S Class. I cancelled the 2021 order.

I understand the anxiety of people that have ordered the car early and were hoping (and due to incorrect dealer information) that their car would show up early. Every dealer has a different story but based on MBUSA's info at the time, the cars delivery timeframe appears to be all but a few weeks late.
The idiotic aspect was to call it a 2021 model year. I can only hope that everyone here leases these only. Any purchased car will take the brunt of depreciation a few years down due to receiving a new old car...

Maybe they will push back 22's to keep depreciation down and values up. Remember years ago cars weren't released years early. I doubt they will release 21's and 22's within 6 months of each other. or would they??

I can wait as much as I like to have the next best thing waiting isn't the end of the world just pick up a nice toy to keep you busy.

Calling any manufacturers customer service number is a waste of time. Those people are paid probably $15/hr to listen to complaints. They can't do anything for a customer and they certainly don't know anything that is going on at the manufacturer level.
It's hard for us to answers from MBUSA if they really don't want to give them.

Many of our orders were placed in what the dealer called an "allocation" build date. The customer expectation was that they would be built (around that date) and then shipped to the dealer to be sold to the customer that placed the order. This was also the dealers expectation. From experience it takes a few days for the car to be built (my 21 GLE450), and about a month to ship from Alabama, and a few weeks more from Germany. IF they did not intend on delivering the cars in that reasonable time frame (build when scheduled and shipped and delivered as usual), they either should have not taken the orders or notified the customers at time of the order that these models will be held. They did not do that.

It is not anxiety or hope. It is a reasonable expectation. "Early" would be if it was built before the build date and therefore delivered before originally expected. I'm sure there is a reason Mercedes is holding these cars, even past their own 1st half of 2021. I don't need to speculate what that reason is, but the customers that placed orders because the dealer said they had a build allocation date deserve to get an explanation why their car is being held up.

My car is scheduled to be built 3decade July so I don't have anything to complain about, but if they took my '22 order and hold it so they don't make the '21 people mad, well.... (now that part is speculation ). Also this is not about you, Wolfman. you are a great moderator. I just wanted to say I understand and agree with the discussion here.

It's all about the chips, MB is not the only one with low inventories and severely reduced number of cars in the pipeline.

Thanks for the info, I gave up on the CHAT Line, they know nothing, just added Customer Service to that list! Not sure how your dealership gets info Mercedes max but the two down here seem to get very little to nothing from whoever is supposed to supply it (regional manager)? I think most people can understand waiting, I think the missing link is why. Mercedes is a large corporation and they run it, not us but I do believe their customers deserve a little taste of that carrot (meaning answers or a game plan where their ordered vehicle is and an approximation of delivery)? I don't think that's too much to ask when your spending North of $100,000.00?

I ordered mine in later April. Tracked it on the boat. Arrived at Brunswick port in Georgia yesterday. Dealer says they have been told that all the vehicles ill ship to dealers July 9. I noticed on line that they are now pricing the 2021's. Some options are not available in the build tho. Specifically, the Tech package isn't available for the 2021's. Dealer says that you can order the 2022's in August.

Edit: I did order the technology package, and dealer says it was built as ordered. E Active suspension was not available then, and not now, I think.

Just an FYI in my part of the country. I ordered my 2022 S580 in April. Not sure when the order was actually entered into their system, however my 2022 was built last week and I already have the VIN. I don't expect to see it in my garage for months, but it is built. It included the Technology package. I cancelled my 2021 order in April.
