Maybach S580 vs S680

I was interested in a MY22 Maybach and just saw that the S680 was recently announced. I'm looking for some feedback on whether I'm better off going with the V8 since it's a newer design, with more responsive turbos along with the electric motor, etc. The V12 just piqued my interest because well, it's a V12 and all that power and torque is supposed to be fun. Apparently new for the V12 in the W223 is that it will be mated with 4Matic so all that low-end torque can actually be used a bit better. There was a question of whether the V12 was even going to make an appearance on the W223 and it looks like it will be available for at least one more generation. Thoughts or comments?

The irony is that I'm also considering the EQS. But that's another discussion.

I had an SL600 and the V-12 was the best engine I have ever owned. It is smoother running than any V-8 and the torque is mesmerizing! The downside is that it is expensive to maintain because it is crammed into the engine compartment making it a bit more difficult to service should something need to be replaced…but if you can afford the Maybach you can afford to maintain it! Also, the V-12 sure drew a lot of attention wherever I went. Someone was always coming up to me and asking about that V-12.

Not necessarily "newer" design of the 580 vs 680.
This new V12 is really new, it is not a modified 65 engine, it was recently developed by MB with a significant contribution from Horacio Pagani (told me this himself in October 2019 while visiting his factory).

He may have been talking about the V12 in a (then) upcoming version of the Huayra. The new S680 is using the same M279 V12 that the previous generation used and the only modifications are minor to get it mated to 4Matic. This is the same SOHC V12, 3-valve V12 has been using in one form or another for years now. If Mercedes had done a new V12 it would have been highlighted all over the place with the introduction of the S680. Mercedes hasn't developed a new V12 in today's climate and during the crunch for EV investment.

He specifically stressed it was a new engine, not with higher specs then the 65 but done with the purpose to lower the emissions.
He mentioned an all new block in particular.
The engine (in his words) was to be used in the new Pagani and in Maybach but if you say he was wrong then what he said was not true apparently (?)
Unfortunately I don't have a clip of that conversation only when he explains to my wife (interior designer) how he developed the CF sink in the bathroom.

I'm sure they have altered the engine to keep it compliant, but this isn't a new engine. They've been tinkering with this same V12 for years. The one with the new block is likely the one Pagani vehicles, not the Maybach. The extreme version of the Huayra have up to 800hp now and that version of the engine is what he was likely talking about. It's been modified even more than the one in the S680.

I'm not going to argue this, Me and my wife don't speak Italian and had to rely on translation done by his lovely assistant, a young girl with English that could still be improved (Horacio does not speak English besides few phrases and sentences).

No argument, just clarifying.

Interesting, thanks for the info. So yeah, it will be a slightly tweaked version of the M279 V12 Mercedes has been using for years. Any experience in terms of reliability? I've been wondering if I should get a V12 before they end up disappearing in most production cars save for exotic/hyper cars. Still kinda torn.

It's only a matter of time before even the most exotic of exotics will abandon V12 engines.
