I'm undecided as to whether to get the 223 or the EQS. Everything I'm reading in the automotive press is that the ICE is dead and EVERYone is going electric. Geez, even Ford with their Lightning. I'm wondering if in 3-5 years, the 223 will seem like something approaching buggy whips. "They don't make them (ICE) no more, you know". As this is a forum for discussion, I wanted to pose my indecision and hear responses. Thanks.
Well I wouldnt rush to conclude ICE is dead immediately... They will continue to make the ICE engines till 2030 or so and for certain markets as it will be practically impossible to completely switch to electrics. It has to be done diligently and gradually. As for the EQS, its beautiful inside but outside is a whole different story. Looks like a jellybean and not a Mercedes in anyway. I wouldnt even bother looking at the EQS for the styling alone. I careless if its electric. The S class is the pinnacle and is what Mercedes is known for and it will be around for a long time and they will eventually make the S class electric down the road no doubt. The S class is amazing looking and you will get alot of complements. I have a 2021 Audi RS7 and its amazing and will always be desired with the amazing engine, looks etc. I get 1 or 2 comments a week how amazing it looks and sounds etc. I will still stick with the ICE for a long time and have 1 electric in the garage later. Looking forward to the S580 AMG. I would give this S class a try and then look at the second generation Mercedes electric cars as they will have better styling etc.

It will be decades before the ICE cars are gone. So don't worry about that. The new S 580 is an amazing car.
There are going to be plenty of gas guzzlers on the roads for another 50+ years. There will always be less fortunate/affluent people driving the beaters, especially in the future when the class divide becomes even more pronounced.

Yeah, I’m not there yet. “Electric Land,” that is. Give it a few more years to really get perfected and for WAY more, WAY faster charging stations. I also agree that the EQS is butt ugly.

Me too. My first EV will probably be more of a utility vehicle that won’t usually go far from home. Until the open road is absolutely STUFFED with fast, safe, convenient charging stations, I’ll keep my ICE S Class for road trips.
It infuriates me that we have a government pushing this EV vehicle nonsense all to be politically correct without knowing all the REAL facts.
First an ICE vehicle is a product with the one of the highest percentages of recyclability which an EV doesn't have.
It takes a Tesla approx 50-75k miles to erase the emissions gap. Remember a lot of these tech product mfg countries have no EPA.
Then there is our electric infrastructure not being able to reliably charge all these cars. Anybody who lives in CA during fire season knows what I am talking about.
It sounds so great to hear our uneducated leaders spout off that EV vehicles are saving the world when in reality that is not a proven fact. Funny how they never attack HVAC which every single home in the USA has and the average one is at least 20 years old with zero emissions regulation.
I will go kicking and screaming till the end. Can you imagine a Ferrari with its exhaust note being blasted through speakers in an EV?

You are not alone. Watched a video recently on what it will take to get more people in electric cars . . . it boiled down to three things: Cost, range anxiety and charging options. The first two have basically been solved, but charging stations in this country are very insufficient. They did a ratio of number of EV's vs. number of charging stations in the US compared to the EU, and the US is very behind the curve. Instead of offering more tax incentives to buy the cars, the tax incentives need to be refocused on charging stations. I see that Musk is going to start allowing non-Teslas to use their stations, which will be help.
